Steelers @ Broncos -- Game Day Open Thread -- 3rd Quarter

     @

Date: Sunday, October 21, 2007

Time: 6:15 p.m. MST

Teams: Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) at Denver Broncos (2-3)

Location: Invesco Field @ MileHigh - Denver, CO

3RD QUARTER --

Broncos Sixth Drive --
--Let's see if the offense can keep it going to start the 3rd quarter...
--A first down catch makes it look like they will...
--Another first down for Marshall and the Broncos are moving again...
--We could have done without that....Cutler's second pick of the game gives the Steelers great field position...

Steelers Seventh Drive --

--Steelers using the momentum created by their defense to get something going on offense. Costly turnover by Cutler. Very costly...
--Nick Ferguson, untouched, unblocked, un-everythinged brings down Parker in the backfield bringing up a huge 3rd down.
--It's not to be as the Steelers convert. A bad turnover gets the Steelers right back into it. BRONCOS 21 -- Steelers 14

Broncos Seventh Drive --

--A big possession for the Broncos offense, especially Jay Cutler. He has to find a way to avoid throwing picks. I know that might seem like common sense, but so far in his young career he hasn't been able to do it.
--A nice start, with a bullet to Marshall...
--Myers has done a solid job tonight at center...
--Broncos pick up another first down
--Cutler gets sacked for the first time
--Huge play by Young on the screen and the Broncos pick up another first down...
--Cutler has got to learn to THROW THE BALL AWAY!!! Nearly another turnover...
--Another 3rd down conversion for Stokley and the Broncos are moving again.
--Great play call. The Steelers blitzing from the left anf the Broncos throw the screen to that side. Perfect timing...
--Travis henry took a shot to his leg but looks to be ok...2nd and goal...
--TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS!!!TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS!!! Jay Cutler throws his 3rd TD pass of the game and the Broncos answer the Steelers again! BRONCOS 28 -- Steelers 14

Steelers Eighth Drive --

--Steelers backed up as the 3rd quarter comes to an end....

END OF THIRD QUARTER -- BRONCOS 28 -- Steelers 14

Very important to score on this opening drive
Denver has found an attacking front to get Rothlisberger's feet moving, but Pitt will go to a more physical attack if the score will allow it.

If Denver wants to continue using multiple end sets, the need to keep Pitt in passing mode.  Get a long drive going, put points on the board, and keep the bigger tackles off the field.

Poor read by Jay
he had time to allow Scheff to stretch the seam and escape the 'backer's zone.

Umm, that's not zone Mr Madden
They switched it up and went man there which was why no one was watching Big Ben and the middle opened up.

Those are Cutler's points
That absolutely cannot happen. He needs to get those back right here.

Cutler take the easy play
He's trying to do too much right now, and a dump off to Marshall or Graham would have been much better than that fumble.

This is a great learning game for Jay, he's seeing a lot of things he can't do but is digging his way out.

And Cutler responds
Showing the signs of why I think he's going to be phenomenal. Way to go!!!!!
