I think
Monday's game will be a matchup of the gunslingers. Who makes few mistakes?

More volatile than Pitt game?
I could see this game as having even more ramifications than the Pittsburg game. If they win, it really solidifies some momentum for the rest of the season, if not than the Pitt game looks like an aberration.

There's a lot riding here.

I agree with both of you guys.
Should be a shootout.

GB doesn't want to run the ball (they only average 60 something per game on the ground).  They also want to take the crowd out early (they respect our crowd; they've never won in Denver).  They have a legendary QB, while we have a rookie (in terms of games played).

Who wins in a shootout?  It could go either way.  Both teams have an excellent CB duo.  I give us the edge because we have a better nickleback than they do, and we have two TEs that are a threat versus one from GB (and I wouldn't call Lee elite).  I sure wish we had Walker right now to give us a dangerous three WR threat.

This game will have a lot to do with momentum, but it shouldn't have to.  We shouldn't kill ourselves with a loss to GB.  They are probably the 2nd best team in the NFC, and I think that beating (upsetting) PITT gives us some insurance to lose a game (not that we want to).

But if we win I see us as seriously back in the hunt.  Remember, we're only just behind KC so we are positioned well for a division spot in the playoffs.  A win against GB is a win that our division rivals have to get too.

At 3-3, insurance high priced
hoosier, I loved and hated one of your quotes each.

"...gives us some insurance."  I'm furious we're 3-3.  Hope the team is too.  No insurance until we're 8-3.

"A win against GB is a win that our division rivals have to get too." - Excellent point.  I love looking at the similar games outside the division (for instance, we beat the Bills and the Chargers lost to the Pats, so we trumped them in the AFC East portion of the schedule).  Now time to root for Baltimore so we can gain a 2-game edge on them when they (likely) beat us again on Christmas Eve.

I hear you.
I knew that "insurance" statement wasn't really how I wanted to put it.  That's why I added the part about not really wanting it to be like that.  Still, I never want insurance to make a team think they are allowed to lose.  We just need to win our home games, and games against top ten teams like GB to have a shot for later in the season when we play SD again.

And I totaly agree with you about watching the records of the teams we have in common with our division rivals.  Tie breakers are real possibilities both for the division and for wild card.

I hated having to cheer for Oakland (whom we beat) to beat KC last week.

I think
I disagree with you...maybe not though

I think GB DOES want to run the ball...they just can't (they still don't have a lock on who is starting this week).  I also think this is the week they give it the 'ol college try (and, no, that doesn't mean that they order pizza and beer and try again next week).  That is why I expect a low scoring first half. I think GB is going to waste a lot of time coming to terms with which is worse:  our run defense or their run game.

Also, I think GB really wants to avoid a shootout, especially against Denver.  GB is like a ship just before it founders:  an almost imperceptible shudder runs through the hull (i.e. conservative playcalling 2 weeks previous), a precarious tilting of the masts (Favre looking human again), and than the inevitable taking on of water, (GB loses to Denver).  GB wants to win without exposing too much of their current lack of sea-wothiness (to stretch a metaphor too far).  A 15-minute game suits them better than a 60 minute game here.  The D is for real, but it won't be enough because Denver's offense is also for real.

That being said, I stand by my pick of GB in a close one.   I plan on blaming Kornheiser for the loss...

Very nicely put.
I agree the game starts out as a running game.

But to use some sailing metaphors of my own (I'm a huge America's Cup fan)...

I think when the winds aren't blowing for the running game the Packers tack away to what they do best.  They switch sails and stop trying to "run" upwind and use the "air" to better advantage.  I don't know who has the starboard right of way (our rush defense or their rush offense), but if their's enough poop on the deck they'll surely turn to their tactician and look for a better leg.

Ok, that was pretty dopey.  Still, I think Favre is just too much of a gunslinger to keep his powder dry.  Both teams have excellent secondaries, so who do you trust more?  If I'm the GB coach I pick Favre over Cutler.  If they start the passing early and score we'll have to follow suit (and vice versa).

Still, I could be wrong.  I totaly botched what I thought PITT would do (and most people I think blame the loss on Tomlin for coaching a bad game).  I think I still managed to peg the rest of the game right in terms of Xs and Os.  I'd rather get the win than be right.

Whatever GB does (and they could certainly go either way) it should be close.  I'm giving the edge to DEN (along with vegas and all of the "experts" on ESPN online).  But GB is a more well rounded team right now, even though I think we match up against them in terms of style a bit better.

RMN
The News is saying there have been internal discussions about Jackson but they are unlikely to pursue him.

Bummer.
