Chargers @ Broncos -- Third Quarter Open Thread

Another dismal performance at home for the Broncos in the first half.  The BYE week is coming at the perfect time for the Broncos.  While the final result of this game might be decided I am looking for the Broncos to play with some pride on their home field.  It will start with the Chargers getting the ball...

Chargers Fifth Drive --

--The Broncos pass-rush always seems to be a half-second late. Rivers has thrown passes to only 2 players, L.T. and Gates.
--Dre Bly has trouble with big receivers and has trouble with Vincent Jackson. Another first down.
--The last thing the Broncos need are more injuries, with Champ Bailey on the sidelines...Ugh.
--Hey!! A Nate Webster siting. Now it's the Chargers that are self-destructing a bit. We'll take whatever we can get.
--Unbelievable. Ian Gold lined up against a wide receiver???? Are you kidding me? Could this defense be designed any worse?
--Webster gives the Chargers another first down after the penalty. Easy call.
--Another missed tackle, this time by Domonique Foxworth, another TD for the Chargers. Chargers 27 - BRONCOS 3

Broncos Fifth Drive --

--Two runs net 4 yards...solid.
--Another undrafted wide receiver, another fumble. Shanahan will waste another challenge, thus another time-out.
--WOW. That's a surprise call, simply because it was so close.
--Broncos keep the ball, and have a fresh set of downs.
--Great catch by Scheffler. If the defense was just decent we'd be alright.
--The Chargers are laying some wood, but the Broncos are holding on. Stokely injured, shocker...
--Jay Cutler throws an interception a wekk, there is another one.

Chargers Sixth Drive --

--That should just about end the competitive portion of the game
--Another third down conversion for the Chargers.
--The defense getting shredded again, and the Chargers are enjoying this....Big Time.
--Three straight blow-outs by the Chargers over the Broncos.
--Dre Bly gets beat again, this time for a TD. Chargers 34 - BRONCOS 3

Broncos Sixth Drive --

--The way the Broncos are playing at home right now has to be unprecedented. A 2-8 stretch, and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better.

END OF THIRD QUARTER -- Chargers 34 - BRONCOS 3

nope
Just business as usual for the D.

They score here and I'm finding something else to do with my Sunday afternoon.

Good to see Engleberger on the field
in an obvious passing situation, he's been nothing but fantastic in pass rushing this year...

Seriously, why did we draft Jarvis Moss, because he looks good in his uniform?  Someone tell Bates that Jarvis was kind of a good player in college, and we kind of spent a few picks on him.

very frustrating to watch
a TD is obviously crucial here, but I don't think there is anyway the Broncos can win without forcing a turnover at some point in the near future.

No, no, no
I said the Broncos need to GET a turnover, not lose one.

I'm ready to see this Martinez go too
just for that fact that we're exceeding our UFA allotment.  I hate relying on players that shouldn't be here and are trying to outplay their deficiencies.

I'm tired of "overachievers," I want talent!

Amen
Feel good stories amount to squat.

well, there's lucky break #1
need 2 or 3 more to win.

Invesco Field
Can just anybody tell me whether the stadium is empty already?

by DjBroncos on Oct 7, 2007 4:08 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

it is empty
the weather turned crappy and rest of them are booing.

Only to be stopped
by an INT. Nine straight games with an INT for Jay.

Webster in coverage = automatic first down
Gold in coverage = automatic first down

Ferguson in coverage = Ferguson covers?

Time to start...
paying more attention to your college breakdowns, cuz this team is going to have a high draft pick.

We need Dorsey big time
but we won't be high enough to get him.

We could use Keith Rivers of USC, but he has a tendency to blanket tight ends, make plays in space, and blitz effectively, so he might be a poor fit here.

Is Sam Brandon the key to our defense?
They just haven't been the same since he got hurt last year.  The problem is that we dont have anyone to cover TE who can receive.  Neither Lynch, Ferguson or any of the LB's can handle even a decent TE.

Yes, this is a very big part
but to me, everything starts up front, it's what I focus on the most, and we are just a trainwreck up there.

As bad as the Broncos have been
That botched handoff from Rivers to LT sums up this game perfectly.  If Denver had the ball, you just know that would have ended up being a fumble recovered by the Chargers .

I'd be tempted to go super young
after the break and angle for a high pick/ natural improvement.

For one, the veterans are the ones killing this team, and two, some of these guys are just good enough that we might actually get better and start pushing the rest of our weak division.  And if that doesn't happen, we'll get a shot at a good player in the draft.

I haven't heard an explanation
for this yet, but what's the deal with the green sticker the QBs have on the back of their helmets?

by Russ Oates on Oct 7, 2007 4:23 PM MDT reply actions   0 recs

green dots have the radio in them
You can only have one green dotted helmet on the field at a time.  I think it was a direct response to Atlanta using Vick and Schaub in the game together.  (kinda ironic)

by MattR on Oct 7, 2007 4:24 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

No...
It was Detroit, who used Kitna and McKown in a game against the Patriots last year.  The Lions claimed they did it because the Pats were jamming their headsets and they didn't want N.E. to know which helmet the play was coming in on.....

Thank you Broncos for sucking so bad
that they've now switched my local coverage...

I was hoping to watch the fourth to see if Thomas or Moss started playing more, but this may be a blessing after all.

You know things are bad
When they switch to show me Trent Dilfer instead of the end of the Broncos game :(

Oh well, I did expect them to be 2-3 going intot he bye.  I was just expecting them to get better and be showing improvement and not regressing.
