Broncos @ Bears - Game Day Open Thread - 3rd Quarter

     @

Date: Sunday, November 25, 2007

Time: 2:15 p.m. MST

Teams: Denver Broncos (5-5, Tied for 1st in AFC West) at Chicago Bears (4-6, 3rd Place in NFC North)

Location: Soldier Field - Chicago, IL

Broncos Ninth Drive --

--Not much going for either team in the return game....
--Bears are looking for the run and the Broncos come out throwing...Cutler is the better passer and the Broncos need to take advantage...
--Can the Broncos actually convert a third down?? Nope. The Broncos are now 0/8, and this is quickly becoming a defensive game...

Bears Ninth Drive --

There's the play we absolutely could not have. A Devin Hestor return. Horrible mistake by the Broncos. Possibly a season-ender...

Broncos Tenth Drive

--Broncos dodge a huge bullet, recovering the Martinez fumble. Two fumbles in two weeks. How long can the Broncos afford to send him back there...
--The Broncos start inside the 10 and Cutler throws a pick...

Bears Eleventh Drive

--The Bears can now take the lead, getting the ball in the Red Zone...
--A third down coming up...Broncos need to hold the Bears to 3...
--Grossman nearly gets to the End-Zone on the draw, but the Broncos recover...
--The Bears will forego the field goal try...
--That is definitely a fumble. Grossman lost control on the way down....
--This is a huge call...If the Broncos take possession it would keep the game tied...Does either team want to win this game?
--DENVER BALL!

Broncos Eleventh Drive

--Broncs need to move the ball, gain some yardage, get some damn points...
--Cutler has just not been sharp. Stokley does make the catch and the Broncos challenge.
--A close call to say the least...
--Did not get overturned and the Broncos are faced with another 3rd down...
--Another missed conversion and the Broncos have to punt

Bears Twelfth Drive

--Grossman just isn't a good throwing QB...
--Another drop by the Bears, and the Broncos will get the ball back...

Broncos Twelfth Drive

--Way too much running sideways by Martinez....
--Solid run by Hall, who is quickly becoming the Broncos only offense.
--The Broncos are not going to be able to run all the way down the field. At some point Cutler will have to make a play.
--There's one, and another first down.
--Another run, another first down. Impressive drive by the Broncos to get back field position...
--Amazingly, the Broncos have still not converted a third down.
--Another great throw, and great protection by the O-Line. First Down Broncos!
--Hall has the Broncos inside the 5 again...First and Goal, and the Broncos HAVE TO GET 7 HERE!!
--Go Play-Action on first down!!! They don;t and the Bears stuff the run again...
--Not this time...Option pitch gets the Broncos into the end-zone. Solid drive puts the Broncos back on top! BRONCOS 20 - Bears 13

Bears Thirteenth Drive

--YOU CANNOT KICK TO DEVIN HESTOR!!!
--BRONCOS 20 - Bears 20

Broncos Thirteenth Drive --

--If there is a positive, the Bears defense comes right back on the field...
--The Broncos get it right back....Cutler to Marshall and JUST LIKE THAT!!! Broncos 27 - Bears 20

Bears Fourteenth Drive --

--Bears have great field position, at the 50...
--The Bears just don't have any offense...That is why kicking to Hestor makes no sense...
--Should be another holding penalty....
--Make it a facemask, and the Bears offense keeps going backwards...
--Solid job by the defense again, and the Broncos now have a chance to add some more points, and the Bears defense has to be getting tired...

Broncos Fourteenth Drive --

--We are going to see alot of Andre Hall...
--Near disaster. The Bears only offense is Hestor and this defense. Cannot turn the ball over here...
--Great play by Brandon Stokely, to stay in bounds and get the first down...

END OF THIRD QUARTER -- BRONCOS 27 - Bears 20

EGAD MAN!
0/7 on 3rd downs?!?!?!?\

I knew it was bad but I thought we had at least one...  And this is coming in to the game as the #5 in the league on 3rd down.

We MUST start off with a long drive or the bears are gonna hang around all day.

Credit to Bears defense, they are maligned, but they aren't going anywhere...

Lucky ST Play
We got lucky to get that ball back on the Kick Off return fumble.

What a turn
We go from being up 7 to now facing being down by as much as 7, all in hurry too.

Defense really needs to hold to give our season a chance.

by dpurvis on Nov 25, 2007 4:10 PM MST   0 recs

It took a review...
but the defense did indeed hold. Too bad the refs didn't let the play go through.

all those points we left on the field...
Rod Smith is a Hall of Famer.

Baltimore
gets nothing going - what a pity...

But OK, first of all we have to win it!

by DjBroncos on Nov 25, 2007 4:17 PM MST   0 recs

How the world...
did that incomplete not get overturned?

My wife just joked and said no one saw it the way the ref did because we weren't getting paid what he's getting paid wink wink

by dpurvis on Nov 25, 2007 4:21 PM MST   0 recs

Bullshit!
That was a catch, what they can't win two challenges in a row?

by Donkey on Nov 25, 2007 4:22 PM MST   0 recs

why'd they challenge?
i'm not watching the game, but why'd they challenge the call?  did stokley end up getting a lotta yards or something?  otherwise, it was a stupid challenge, even if stokley did catch the ball.

by andrew on Nov 25, 2007 4:28 PM MST   0 recs

it was a first down if the caught the ball
which in this game, is a pretty big deal :)

by dpurvis on Nov 25, 2007 4:28 PM MST to parent up   0 recs

damn it!!!!!
Rod Smith is a Hall of Famer.

by Jake The Stash on Nov 25, 2007 4:37 PM MST   0 recs

After that Marshall TD reception,
Lovie Smith can only look on in amazement.

Don't kick to Hester again!

by Russ on Nov 25, 2007 4:41 PM MST   0 recs

Better
kick it out of bounds and take the penalty..
