Broncos @ Lions Third Quarter Open Thread

     @

Date: Sunday, November 4, 2007

Time: 11:00 p.m. MST

Teams: Denver Broncos (3-4) at Detroit Lions (5-2)

Location: Ford Field - Detroit, MI

--Some internet connection issues ended the 2nd Quarter thread a bit early, but by the look of the stats above it might be a good thing....The Broncos are in deep, deep trouble, and we are still awaiting word on Cutler's injury...

Lions Fifth Drive --

--Rich Gannon Sucks....BIG TIME!
--A lower left leg contusion is the official report, though we know how Shanny likes to avoid the truth about injuries...
--Kitna has 5 full seconds the throw the ball, yet the Broncos hold.

Broncos Fifth Drive --

--You know it had go out of bounds inside the 5...Nick Harris, one of the many Broncos draft picks from earlier this decade no longer with the team...
--Awesome stat there....37 times a drive has started inside the 10 since 2006...
--The Lions are pinning their ears back and just coming. The Broncos have no answer on offense.

Lions Sixth Possession --

--John Madden, the king of the run-on sentence, talking about Colts/Pats...

You can't get any bigger than this at this point in the season! There will be games bigger when we get to playoff implications and during the playoffs and then the Super Bowl, but when you can get to this point in the season and get two undefeated teams playing against each other and it's not even arguable any more these are the two best teams in the NFL and this is a big, big one!
--Meanwhile, another 3rd down for the Lions, who look to be trying to get this game over with as soon as possible...

Broncos Sixth Drive --

--Nick Harris shoves it right in Shanny's face again...
--Since when is it unsportsmanlike to run into the coaching staff?? I would love to hit the Broncos coaching staff right now...
--Make it 38 times for drives starting inside the 10
--It gets worse for the Broncos...A sack, a fumble and a touchdown for the Lions...Now Matt Lepsis is down injured...
--Touchdown Lions -- Lions 23 - Broncos 0

Broncos Seventh Drive --

--Andre Hall runs back kicks the way you are supposed to.
--Ramsey hit again, then Marshall drops it. Marshall is one I will keep my eye on to see if he gives 100% effort...
--Then another drop by Marshall...or a fumble...
--No challenge....upon further review, bad play by Brandon Marshall...
--Broncos haven't been shut out in a long, long time...Something to keep our eyes on...
--Another drop, this one by Sapp...Ramsey has actually thrown the ball pretty well...
--Another drop by Brandon Marshall...I wasn't kidding when I questioned his effort...
--Marshall hangs on to this one and the Broncos have another first down...
--Henry with a big run down to the 5...So much for the shut out...
--Now henry is down, perhaps re-injuring his ribs...
--Actually it looks like they are testing his lower left leg as well....
--Henry will slowly walk to the sideline...and the Broncos will face a first and goal
--First and Goal -- Run to the left by Selvin Young - Gain of 1
--Second and Goal -- Pass by Ramsey is batted down...
--Third and Goal -- Pass by Ramsey is behind Marshall...
--Fourth and Goal -- Pass by Ramsey incomplete, and Marshall is slow to get up...The Broncos fail in the red-zone again....

Lions Seventh Drive --

--Kitna's first play is a 46-yard pass and catch to something called a McCugh...
--The Broncos have officially given up....2 plays, 95 yards and a touchdown for the Lions..We have officially become embarrassing...
--Touchdown Lions -- Lions 30 - Broncos 0

Broncos Eighth Drive --

--Marshall is back in the game and makes the catch. The shut-out watch is officially on...
--Henry is back in the game as well...
--Scheffler with the drop this time....Ugh...
--Hey hey....Daniel Graham holds on to one and the Broncos have another first down...
--Henry took the handoff, then jogs off the field, he definitely isn't right...
--Ramsey had Martinez but threw it short...Fourth down, again...
--The Broncos will go for it....but Ramsey doesn't watch the play-clock and 4th and 8 becomes 4th and 13...and the Broncos will punt...

Lions Eighth Drive --

--Lions continue to pile on the yardage...12-yard run by Kevin Jones...
--The longest third quarter ever still have over a minute left...
Unofficial count on the number of times Rich Gannon has said "Mike Martz" -- 137

Broncos Ninth Drive --

--A Selvin Young run mercifully ends the 3rd quarter...
--A good sign, Cutler is on the sideline, walking around....

End Of Third Quarter -- Lions 30 - Broncos 0

Is it a conspiracy
that both the Guru and Andrew Mason are having internet issues this week?  Or just more "injuries" for the Broncos?

by MattR on Nov 4, 2007 12:36 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

"Guru's connectivity takes hit"
Guru out and Cutler injured in the second quarter of "The Debacle in Detroit"...

If it looks like the bottom, feels like the bottom, it must be the bottom.

That's good news.
Maybe he misses next week too, but a contusion isn't too serious.  I'll take it.

Reminds me of Scheff's injury...
And Lions have great field position to start.  Obviously the locker room speech was, "Just Give up"

Love that one.

We'll have to wait and see.

What's happening?

Det punted to our 5 yard line.  Then what?  Do we have the ball?  Surely we didn't punt on 1st down.  What's up?

You get that
quality in the draft.  A team with as much turnover as Denver has seen just cannot learn to trust eachother, regardless of the crap they spew in interviews.  Our young D-line should start from here on out.  It is just one area, but between them and the Cutler-Marshall-Scheffler future, we can establish our identity in the coming years.

Quotes from the upcoming aftergame interviews
Shanny, "Well, we've got a lot of work to do.  I'm seeing some good things out there, but obviously we can't be losing games by 87 points"

Cutler, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Get of my F^&^ing leg! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Henry, "Wow Man!  That game was gnarley!  Who's got some chips?  I've got the munchies"

Marshall, "hicup!"

Walker, "Someone take the damn keys from Marshall!"

That the broncos have a legitimate shot at being a game out of first in the division heading into KC next week.  Minnesota just scored to go up 21-14 over SD, but Larry Johnson scored again for KC to give them a 14-13 lead over GB (but don't worry, GB has Favre)
