Next Year's Opponets

I know that the schedule won't be out until April, but at least we know which teams we will play in the regular season in 2008

Home Games:

Buffalo - I'm sure they would love to pay us back for the loss in 2007.

Jacksonville - Broncos would love some payback.  The Jags need hit in the mouth instead of us.

Kansas City - Who knows what to expect from them.

Miami - Will the "Tuna" be a GM or coach?

New Orleans - Get your pass defense ready and contain Reggie Bush.

Oakland - Would prefer a blowout instead of time outs.

San Diego - Time to slap around LT and Rivers instead of 41-3!  I don't normally encourage injury, but whacking these two wouldn't break my heart.

Tampa Bay - Hard to tell if they will be good or bad...always up and down.

Road Games:

Atlanta - Will still suck, at least tickets will be easy to buy for this one.

Carolina - Who could be leading these guys?  Look out for Peppers.

Cleveland - Could be tough, need Elvis to stop Anderson or Quinn.

Kansas City - Hope they don't schedule this in December.  Would like to see a winning streak at Arrowhead start.

New England - Looks like only Denver can beat these guys.  Broncos have never lost at Gilette if memory serves me correctly.

New York Jets - May be a tough opponet.  Broncos not known to play well in New Jersey.

Oakland - Need to start another dominant win streak against them.  Look for Russell to be full-time starter.

San Diego - Would like to smack them for ruining all of our Christmas Eve in 2007.

OK, what's your take on the schedule?  It could look favorable to us if we get some pieces and not suffer so many injuries.  I look forward to your opinions.  The best thing I see is we are NOT KICKING TO DEVIN HESTER!

It looks on paper to be
as tough of a schedule as this year.  If not stronger...it's strange how your record no longer determines your strength of schedule.

We'll see....the draft can't get here fast enough...

I think
your record might factor into which games are home and away, and also two "bonus" games on the schedule.

Our two bonus games last year were Buffalo and Pittsburgh, both at home.

It looks like our two bonus games this year are Jacksonville and Cleveland.

You are correct.
The extra two games are based on the record from the previous year.  I don't know about the home and away issue though.

All I care about is that our record is the same as the rest of the division (adjusted for record from the last year).  I like it.

That still doesn't make sense...
Pit and Cleveland both have much better records...which is why I tend to think we got stiffed on the scheduling.  Not that I would rather have a weak schedule, our guys need to earn a playoff berth next year...

When the league...
Went to 8 divisions it severely lessened the amount of flexibility in the schedule.

Now, the two "extra" games are determined by divisional placement, not record, so because the Broncos finished 2nd in the West, they get the second place team from the AFC North and AFC South.  Thus, Jacksonville and Cleveland, regardless of record.

Thanks for straightening that out
That makes much more sense.

In addition to what the Guru said
When you count divisional games it evens out the strength of schedule within a division.  San Diego has to play tougher opponents in Pitt and Indy, but they get to play the three worst teams in the AFC West.  Meanwhile, Oakland gets to play Baltimore and Houston but has to play the three best teams in the AFC West.

Pittsburgh has a killer schedule next year facing the best division from top to bottom in both the AFC (South) and the NFC (East).  Plus they get San Diego and New England.

My guesses
I'll base my opinion on how I think we'll build, as well as the other teams.  Of course, my opinion will probaly change quite a bit by August.

Again, a lot should change those picks between now and then.

Here's my guess work...

oak - W
TB - L

Away

NE - L

I will be more optimistic than you. ;)  Remember, it's 1995, which means we should go 13-3 next year and lose in the playoffs.  However, If we play like we did this year, then:

Home

Buf - L
Jax - L
KC - W
Mia - W
NO - L
SD - L
oak - W
TB - W

Away

Atl - W
Car - W
Cle - L
KC - L
NE - L
NYJ - L
oak - L
SD - L

I am hoping the ship gets corrected, quickly.

That's interesting.
When I did my list I came up with 13-3 and thought, "That's too optimistic".  My initial list only had losses to NE, JAX, and the away SD game.  Our only diff is I had JAX instead of TB.

Thinking that 13-3 sounded too good to be true I looked for games that were possible losses and STILL came up with a good record.  I think a playoff shot is likely if we make even modest improvements.  The sched doesn't look too bad.

This is wild
The schedule I was going to post looks exactly like yours, right down to 10-0 streak at home broken in probably the last game of the season to TB in a "meaningless" game.

Cool.

schedule
One little thing that sticks out for me is that I'm glad we are hosting Miami instead of playing there.  Have the Broncos ever won in Miami?  I can only remember them handing the Broncos their second loss in 98 and spanking them in week 1 in 05.

I look at this a little differently
This year Miami was so bad that I would rather play them on the road next year.  That way we would have a tougher opponent with our own homefiled advantage.

Never the less, at least it should be a win.

I like the schedule
It should be easier than 2007 was.  The AFC East is not as good as the AFC South from top to bottom.  The same is true in the NFC.  Facing the NFC South should be easier than the North was this year.  Jacksonville at home is the same both years, but going to Cleveland should be a bit more difficult than this year's trip to Buffalo.

Looking just at the schedules, Denver should be a game (or two) better if they play just as poorly in 2008 as they did in 2007.  You would hope that the team will actually play better in 2008 due to better health, improvement of the young players and more experience in the defensive system.  That should be worth 2 games and could be worth as much as 4 depending on how much improvement there really is and if any players make "the leap".  But that means a total improvement of 3 games should be expected while as much as 6 games is possible if every thing goes right.  That equals a record of somewhere between 10-6 and 13-3, which seems in line with what others thought while breaking the season down game by game.

PS.  It's also better for me personally as I live near Giants Stadium and have a friend in Charlotte so that's at least two games I can shoot for.
