Travis Henry Wins Appeal; Avoids Suspension -- Sam Adams, Jeff Shoate Released

This statement was released by the Denver Broncos at 4:55pm EST --

The Denver Broncos today were informed by the National Football League that running back Travis Henry has won his appeal.

We are pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter.

The Broncos look forward to Travis Henry's continued participation on the playing field.

UPDATE #2 -- Per ESPN.com --

After waiting for a ruling, Henry was notified Tuesday afternoon he won his appeal. "Travis Henry will remain in the substance abuse program, must continue to adhere to all aspects of it, but will not be suspended following his appeal," the NFL announced in a statement Tuesday. "The defense of hair samples and lie detector tests was irrelevant and unconvincing, but our substance abuse program is based on meeting the highest standards and respecting player rights in all phases of its administration."

Basically, the NFL is giving Henry a mulligan, a do-over. Henry would have rolled out of the program after Week 3 of this season. Now he will be part of the program for at least another year...

UPDATE #1 -- Here is a link to the Denver Post story, that also has this little tidbit --

Meanwhile, the Broncos cut starting defensive tackle Sam Adams and reserve cornerback Jeff Shoate. They're expected to be replaced this week. Adams didn't make much of an impacrt after signing as a free agent in June.

Good job NFL
As much as those two fumbles cost us the game T.Henry is innocent and I will now welcome him back as a Bronco and as a Young Guns(Team Name) Fantasy Football Running Back. As for Sam Adams and Jeff Shoate its about time.

Agreed
I imagine we will all have a lot to discuss once HT gets a new Henry diary up...

Gah
Plan for the future. I don't want Henry.

The cutting of Adams is great news though.

Sounds similar to the GB restructuring that Styg
researched in his posting in the diaries on Bates' system implementation.  Sounds like they are making room for young players who will learn the system and grow with it.

I am thoroughly frustrated with the Defense this season, but HT has shown that Bates has been very successful with his system with other teams, so I will be patient.

I think
Denver is eager to go after players that must be coming available now, and players that are on other teams practice squads right now.  Kudos to the front office on this move.  Marcus Thomas is starting now, right??

Adios,
Shoate and Fat Man!  I not sure about Henry though.  I'd rather he was gone too.

Can Henry. He needs to go.
And with Bates, I don't think we have the player turnover he had the first year. Isn't his lable "assistant coach" or am I mistaken.

Bates' title
"Assistant Head Coach in charge of Defense"

And we have a lot of turnover from last year on defense, especially in terms of starters at specific positions.  The next batch of turnover is slated to happen this coming offseason, though this early start is great to see.

Somebody double check me on Bates' title too, I'm going from memory on that one...

I wrote a comment ages ago...
...and it would take me forever to find it.  I explained the title there.

The simple explanation is that Bates is Mike's number two man.  Although there is a defensive coordinator listed in Denver's coach roster, Bates is the authority there.  The existing def coord (Slowik) takes direction from Bates.

It is the same...
On offense, where Rick Dennison is the OC while Heimerdinger is the Assistant Head Coach in charge of the Offense...

I will have a diary shortly on the Henry situation
Agree with all that Adams and Shoate makes room for youth.  Good move.

Good news all around...
It is my hope that we will be able to trade away Henry next offseason.

The only way we will do that is if Selvin Young works on building his body to become a bigger more bruising back(like TD did between his rookie year and his second season).  If he comes back the same player he is now then we will have to either keep Henry or draft a more power back.

The funniest part of the game last Sunday was when McCown was flushed out of the pocket by Sam Adams and chased.  McCown looked friggin scared out of his mind and nearly threw the ball into the stands.  My brother(Raiduh fan) and I were laughing our asses off.  ;)

Puff Puff Pass Donkey!!!
AHA!!  He was not innocent!! He got off because of a technicality; the fact that he did not have a specialist there of his choosing at the time of the test.  He's a dope fiend, and his previous run-ins with the NFL confirm that.  How many people get in trouble multiple times and never learn their lesson.  Rickey Williams, Irvin, and now Henry just to name a few.  The Donkeys can keep him though cause hopefully he'll take a few more down with him.

Try not to feed the troll.
He likes to point out spelling errors in other people's posts, but "concidering" (sic) his penchant for same he barely merits a response.  Of course, I'm sure he also made that mistake on purpose "to see if it would be caught".  So we'll ignore the several grammatical errors found in the sentence that starts with, "Seeing as I...".

I'm glad to see that MBA students are at least as uneducated as those of us who have already struggled through a masters' thesis and a doctoral dissertation.  It is to be hoped (since "hopefuly" is incorrect) that this matter is put to bed, so folks can enjoy posting and reading at leisure.

AHA!! Still you respond!!
I think its funny that you continue to respond, even though you keep saying not to do so.

About the quote, no I just messed up.  I noticed after the fact, but was hoping no one else would.  Alas, he did, and I fessed up.  You see, men take responsibility for their mistakes, and you will learn that when you get older buddy.  I think Mommy is calling you, so you better saddle up Donkey, and trot of to see what she wants.

By the way, it should be written, "considering his penchant for 'THE' same" if you want to talk about grammar.  I was referring to your spelling (how hard is it to spell check), but we can get technical if you want.

What's the Over-Under on this guy responding again after he has said not to three times.  I'll take the Over!!

Thank You....Finally!!
I was wondering if I was gonna get away with that.  Some one finally caught it.  Its still a great quote and and very fitting concidering the weekends events.  Seeing as I messed it up though, I have changed to another just as fitting.
