Chiefs @ Broncos - 'Time To Play For Pride' -- Game Day Open Thread

     @

Date: Sunday, December 9, 2007

Time: 2:05 p.m. MST

Teams: Kansas City Chiefs (4-8, 4th in AFC West) at Denver Broncos (5-7, 2nd Place in AFC West)

Location: Invesco Field @ Mile High - Denver, CO

First Quarter --

Broncos First Drive --

--Andre Hall returns the opening kickoff to the 23. I don't care about the playoffs, or the division. I want to see a solid 60 minutes of football from all 3 facets....
--Selvin Young to starting RB. Is anyone else questioning the future of Travis Henry in Denver?
--Like I was saying....Young goes for 50 over the left side. Sweet move down-field as well!
--Just like that the Broncos are on the scoreboard. The recently extended BRandon Stokley with the reception and the Broncos take the early lead. TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS!! BRONCOS 7 - Chiefs 0

Chiefs First Drive --

--Nearly a disaster, but the Chiefs recover the fumble and take over at the 26 yard-line...
--Champ Bailey with an awesome tackle on the WR screen. Denver playing with alot more energy...
--Kolby Smith the starting RB, and the Chiefs are expecting him to have a big day...
--Maybe, but he won;t pick up a yard on third and 1. The Chiefs go three and out...

Broncos Second Drive --

--Damn it looks cold in Denver today...
--Broncos take over at the 16...
--A 3rd and five upcoming after the Selvin Young run. Third down conversions are going to be key today....
--A Daniel Graham sighting. A great throw, a great catch, a better run by Graham and a first down for the Broncos...
--17 more yards for Selvin Young, and he is already up to 78 yards rushing...
--Even Travis Henry is running hard...
--Brandon Marshall gets in on the act and has the Broncos inside the 10. The Broncos are playing better today than at any point this season...
--FIRST AND GOAL at the 6 -- Henry gets four...
--SECOND AND GOAL at the 2 -- Henry up the middle for a BRONCOS TOUCHDOWN!!! Two offensive TD's in the first 8 minutes...BRONCOS 14 - Chiefs 0

Chiefs Second Drive --

--How nice this is. Broncos need to keep their foot on the gas. Don't let up...
--The Chiefs start form the 27, but we'll back it up 5 after the penalty...
--The Chiefs continue to kick themselves in the foot with penalties...
--The Chiefs forced to punt, and the word from Tennessee -- Chargers 23 - Tennessee 17

Broncos Third Drive --

--Broncos go deep, but nothing doing. Stokley wants a penalty but won't get it...
--Young runs for 9 more and is on his way to 100 yards in the first quarter...
--Third and one, and Young comes up short. Instead of Henry, a much more powerful back, it's Young and the results tell the tale...

Chiefs Third Drive --

--The Chiefs get 3 yards on first down. The Broncos defense needs to maintain their intensity....
--Not much pressure, but the tipped pass shows the D-Line is being active...
--Another 3 and out for the Broncos defense, who is playing fast...

Broncos Fourth Drive --

--First and 10 at the Broncos' 25 yard line.
--Chiefs now realize there is a football game, stuffing Young for no gain..
--Brandon Marshall looked like he was going to throw it, but the Chiefs were ready...
--Now the Broncos go three and out, and another punt upcoming..

--A Todd Sauerbrun punt ends the first quarter....

END OF FIRST QUARTER -- BRONCOS 14 - CHIEFS 0

It's finally Sunday
I don't care that they just had an embarrassing showing against the Raiders last week, I spend all week waiting for Broncos games anyway. Come on guys! Let's kick some tail in front of the home crowd!

Anybody watching the game
Let us know who the starting safeties are.  I am thinking Hamza/Foxy.

I am disappointed that they aren't going to take a look at the yound guys they signed.  I guess they want to give the McKinley, Thomas, Mallard DT rotation a chance to get on film.

I'm not very excited about the Mallard pickup.  I'm not exactly sure what they are trying to accomplish in putting him in there.

I just remembered Stephen harris might see the field this game.  That is good, keep us tuned in TV watchers!!

Yeah
I'm on gamecast as well, so anything that the TV/radio folks can tell us will be appreciated.

And SD just tied. @!%(Q@&!....

Oh yeah,
nice start guys,

I sure hope we get to see some consistency again.  We ar five yards away from LEAVING FOUR POINTS BEHIND!!

50-yard run?
Wow.

and YAY! Cutler/Stokely connect for an opening-drive TD!

Stokley TD!
Quick start.

I'll be a dark cloud for a bit
until i see some impressive consistency on offense.  For now I will be content that they are set up to win this game, but 4 play scoring drives aren't our problem...

Three and out
That's what I like to see from the D. It's NOT, however, what I'd like to see from the O. And ye shall go forth and get first downs, Broncos.

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:25 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

SD unable to score in OT
Let's see what the TENN O# can do.

Hmm, what's the longest reception
by Graham so far this season? Anyone?

28-yard Cutler pass
converts the third down. Good... And another long running play for Young, 17-yard gain.

Good one Graham!
I know he isn't everyone's favorite, but I think he is terribly underated.  He's a great compliment to Schef.

Marshall!!
I love broken tackles.

I love when I guy breaks tackles so that they STAY broken.

Second and goal...
Cutler's airing out the cannon early today. In the red zone, come on, guys.

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:29 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Our offense is KILLING these guys!
This will only get better next year.  Lot's of playmakers stepping up.

Red Zone
C'mon guys.  O-line needs to keep it together and just force it in.

by Jeremy Bolander on Dec 9, 2007 2:30 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Woo-hoo!
Now why can't you play like this all the time? Well, I know that not everyone is the Chiefs, but still.

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:30 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Injuries factor in
last week we started falling apart after Young stopped getting carries when he got hurt.

Reminders from a half-empty glass...
KC has 30th ranked offense.

KC kinda sucks really badly right now.

by Jeremy Bolander on Dec 9, 2007 2:32 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Which is why
I noted that not everyone is the Chiefs when asking the Broncos why they couldn't play this well all the time. But still, it's nice to see our boys look better than SOMEONE...

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:34 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

I think the offense is set.
We just need the depth at o-line, maybe a little depth at WR.

Henry is what the doctor ordered for the goal line and red zone.  Glad he's healthy.

[censored] stupid Titans.

It is for the best guys
We haven't performed well when we had too.  The last thing we need is a Kansas City style playoff run.

I would rather just see us calmly continue installing our personell and system as much as we can going into the offseason.

by Jeremy Bolander on Dec 9, 2007 2:39 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

True
Maybe I just don't want to give the season up as a learning experience just yet, although I probably should.

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:41 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

Also keep in mind
That we have tie breakers over Tennesse and Buffalo, should we end up tied at the end of the year, for the last wild card slot. I know it's an even longer shot, but we still need some sort of playoff experience for this young offense.

Styg
From the glass is half full:

We are (again) missing our #1 receiver.  Our slot is playing at #1 (Stokely).  We are playing a second year QB.  We are missing two starters on the o-line.  We really are doing pretty well, considering.  (We've also spent most of the season without our starting RB too).

Another 3 and out for the Chiefs
Hmm... 3 and out for them and a touchdown every possession for us sounds good to me.

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:37 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

The stuff of dreams
I'll take it.  This offense is so close to being dominating, they need to get a good heaping of confidence with a nice 42 point showing one of these days...

by Jeremy Bolander on Dec 9, 2007 2:41 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

And the Broncos need to keep
their foot on the gas the whole way, so there's no chance of any The Week That Shall Not Be Named-style comebacks for KC...

Obscure, but I'm with ya.

Go ahead
We're smarter than the average MNF audience.  I got Miller, just like you got Vivaldi and I got your most recent.

Who is playing
at DT for us on running downs and on passing downs?

by Jeremy Bolander on Dec 9, 2007 2:42 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

KC cannot put together a drive
to save their lives. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

by Silverblood on Dec 9, 2007 2:44 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

I know
we aren't pleased with the Titans right now, but how impressive was it when they ran White like seven straight times and were PWNING the charger's D-line?

I was grinning ear to ear thinking they had that thing wrapped up...

Clicking on both sides of the ball.
Can our STs manage to throw this game away for us?

Uh-oh
Two bad drives for us. No Chief-itis, guys. Let's leave that, ya know, to the Chiefs.

AFC West in 08
DENVER and SD battling for first, both finishing around 12-4

Oakland makes a run at the wildcard 9-7

KC has a rough start but comes on strong playing some good teams hard 7-9

AFC West once again a powerhouse???

by Jeremy Bolander on Dec 9, 2007 2:48 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

I know we all love Young and Hall
But we need to bull rush these guys a few times with Henry to soften up the middle and wear down the defense.  Let's bring in the speedsters and the passing game when we've softened KC up.

We should start wearing them down since we have a 14 point lead and the altitude.
