BREAKING NEWS -- BRONCOS (don't) SIGN DANIEL GRAHAM

What has to be considered the craziest 24-hour period in Bronco history continues...

It is being reported on ESPNRadio right now that the Broncos have reached an agreement with Free Agent TE Daniel Graham.  According to the report the agreement includes $10 million in guaranteed money.

I am interested to see what the actual numbers look like, to see just how long the deal is for, but on paper this looks like a great signing for the Broncos, getting a guy that immediately shores up the Tight End position.

Pro Football Talk is now reporting that Graham's agent, Jack Mills, has said that the story is completely false. Graham still plans on a trip to Oakland and Seattle over the weekend.

This is getting rediculus. Stay tuned for the latest!!!

I Don't Get It...
Why does anyone think we NEED a TE?  Why would we invest our very limited cap room on acquiring a relatively expensive TE like Graham when we just drafted Scheffler last year??  Look, I get that Graham is a solid TE, but unless we're planning to employ a lot of two TE sets, he would not really count as "another weapon for Cutler".  I also know that Tony's overall stats in his rookie season were a disapointment for the second round pick, but if you look a little closer and pay attention to the context things look much better.  Check this split out:
  1. Scheffler with Plummer at QB: 11 games (only had stats in 3 games) 6 catches for 67 yards and 0 TD.
  2. Scheffler with Cutler at QB: 5 games, 12 catches for 219 yards and 4 TD.
I believe that Jay and Tony were roommates early in their Denver careers, so they developed a bound.  They also practiced together before breaking into the starting lineup on a permanent basis late in the season.  Scheffler might be raw, but he can produce now and sharing playing time with a proven, relatively young veteran will only hurt his developement and the bond between him and his QB.  If you project Tony's stats based on the small sample size toward the end of last year, he could easily rack up 40+ catches, 700+ yards and 8+ TD.  That's if you don't factor in the improvement of either him or Cutler... by the way, those numbers would make him a top 5 TE in the league overall.

I agree with...
Alot of what you're saying.  I think you nailed it, though, with why Graham would be a good catch.  If they signed they would emply alot of two TE sets becuase they need to protect Cutler as much as possible, as well as kick-start the running game.  Scheffler just isn't that good of a blocker.

Graham is going to be expensive, and like you said I don't know if the Broncos have the money for such a luvury, but if they could somehow get him it would make the offense that much better.

I, for one..
don't like it..

We already had a diva from the U.  And he didn't have the injury issues...

That ship has sailed.
