MHR Reader Full First Day Mock Draft - Version 1.0
NOTE -- Thanks to ejruiz777 for putting this together. I welcome anyone to comment on this, or better yet put one together yourself. Great Job! -- TSG
Well, I just finished work on my initial full first day mock draft and I wanted to share it with you guys. I'll be focusing on the Broncos haul to explain and elaborate on the picks. The rest of the mock should give those picks added context and I'd hope that it will be fun to look at. I am by no means a draft expert, just an interested party just starting to get involved in draft talk, so I look forward to your input. And now, without further ado:

All the guys that I really want in the 1st are off the board by #16, but I suppose that Moss isn't a bad pick at that point. He's been thoroughly discussed on this board, so I'll leave it at that.
Personally, I'm a fan of Weddle. He's a great guy and a true football player. He won't blow anyone away with his measurables, but his production numbers will surpass those figures easily. I trust he'll be a solid, if not spectacular pro.
We've also argued a bunch about Marcus Thomas here, but I still believe he's worth the gamble in the early 3rd. The Clarett experiment might have failed, but it did showed that Shanahan is willing to gamble at this point in the draft. Marcus' troubles are nothing compared to Maurice's and he has better tools to work with.
Free is a former TE and has the feet and mobility to show for it. He could even potentially play LT in the pros, but would be a great fit at RT for the Orange and Blue.
All in all, I think that's a fine haul. Not great, but good enough to help us win now. Alot could/will change before the draft rolls around, but it's fun and important to measure things up now to see where we stand.

Did we...
Our picks.
As for our picks, we have the following six:
#21 - 21st pick in the 1st round
#56 - 24th pick in the 2nd round
#70 - 6th pick in the 3rd round (from Washington in the Lelie/Duckett deal)
#87 - 23rd pick in the 3rd round
#161 - 2nd pick in the 6th round (from Detroit in the Bly/Bell+Foster deal)
#214 - 23rd pick in the 7th round
We lost our 6th rounder for Wilkenson, our 5th rounder in the Bly deal and our 4th rounder in the Lelie/Duckett trade (?).
In case you're curious, the combined value of all of our picks is in between the values of the 6th and 7th overall picks.
I'd be fine with that
Weddle may not make out to be a consistent starter, but on a team that needs help on both sides of special teams, and added versatility as a cover corner in some schemes, he does enough of everything to be an asset. With a limited roster, he's worth about three spots.
We know I'm not a Thomas fan, but with Moss already in tow, and Thomas having beefed up to the mid 310's, he might be a solid gamble at the top of round three. It would be nice to see Denver draft multiple defensive linemen for a change.
Free is solid value at the end of round three. He's beefed up quite bit and should develop into a solid right tackle with sound positioning and athleticism to play in a zone blocking system.
This draft has a good blend of reliability and risk, and addresses valid needs. Moss alone makes the draft for me, but filling in needs behind him is just as satisfactory.
