SBNation Mock Draft -- Pick #3 Cleveland Browns
![]()
With the third pick in the 2007 SBNation Mock NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select.....

Joe Thomas, OT -- Wisconsin
The Browns had a few directions they could go with this pick, from quarterback Brady Quinn to runningback Adrian Peterson. In the end, DBN went with the stud left tackle. Offensive Lineman are tough to predict early in the draft, with there being as many Robert Gallery and Tony Madarich types as there have been Orlando Pace picks. The Browns need to finally show the AFC North they are going to have an identity, and with the signing of Eric Steinbach, and the selection of Joe Thomas, the Browns are telling everyone they'll play smash-mouth up front.
The focus shifts back to the Detroit Lions who are back on the clock at #4.

Living in Cleveland...
Romeo doesn't want a QB, with this probably being his last year to show progress....
Ownership is keen on getting that "franchise" quarterback.
It will be interesting to see who wins...

I didn't mind Arizona's selection of a tackle
It doesn't matter if you can keep Frye upright if he isn't a franchise caliber quarterback. Cleveland's off-season moves have already built a credible offensive line, and if need be, Steinbach could be a good fit at tackle if need be. I think Frye is solid, but there is no comparison between him and Quinn, who I believe is the draft's top QB prospect.
Taking Quinn and then looking for a tackle or guard in round two (Staley slipping? Grubbs?) might be a better long term route, which should be the focus of any team in the top ten picks by merit.
