Raiders @ Broncos -- Second Quarter Open Thread

     @

Date: Sunday, September 16, 2007

Time: 4:15 p.m. ET

Teams: Oakland Raiders (0-1) at Denver Broncos (1-0)

Location: Invesco Field @ Mile High -- Denver, CO

Raiders Third Drive cont. --

--A big third and nine from the Broncos 44 to start the second quarter greets the Raiders' offense.
--What an athletic play by the big fella, Marcus Thomas getting the INT off the deflection and teh Raiders are turned away. Two turnovers already for the Broncos defense. Great start.

Broncos Third Drive --

It will take some time to get the Broncos next drive started, with lightning forcing the suspension of the game. We'll step aside to eat some peanuts and be back
--Play resumes with a nice catch by Daniel Graham.
--Then an interception by Kirk Morrison gives the Raiders the ball back, though the Broncos had a great chance to get it back when Morrison fumbled. Not a very good throw by Cutler, who looked like he never saw the Raiders' Linebacker.

Raiders Fourth Drive --

--The Broncos defense can get the ball right back if they can hold on 3rd and long...
--Great coverage, but McCown take off and picks up a career-high 21 yards on the scramble. A big first down for the Raiders.
--A 3rd and 3 upcoming as the Raiders make their first appearance in the Broncos' Red Zone.
--Jarvis Moss makes sure they aren't there for long, dropping Justin Fargas in the backfield. It's SeaBass time, and he drills the 37-yard FG to cut the Broncos lead. BRONCOS 7 - RAIDERS 3 (7 plays, 28 yards, 3:31)

Broncos Fourth Drive --

--The Broncos will start from the 20. Looking for Cutler to come back strong after the INT.
--Not much for henry, and the delay has really taken the flow away from the Broncos' offense and the energy from the crowd...
--What a run by Selvin young on the draw. After nearly falling down 3 yards behind teh line of scrimmage, Young nearly takes it to the house. Dude is solid...
--The crowd is back into now after the screen to Walker nets another big gain, and the Broncos are back in the Red Zone
--Broncos will have a First and Goal from the one after the Pass Interference penalty, Asomugha trying to cover Javon Walker, and failing.
--TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS -- Cecil Sapp right up the middle extends the Broncos lead! -- BRONCOS 14 - Raiders 3 (5 plays, 80 yards, 2:52)

Raiders Fifth Drive --

--Sauerbrun's third straight touchback begins the Raiders next possession
--Solid defense again for the Broncos forces a three and out. The tackling is much, much better today, that's for sure.

Broncos Fifth Drive --

--Javon Walker starting to make his impact known with a sweet 24-yard possession.
--What the hell is the deal with Raiders D-Coordinator Rob Ryan? He looks like the guy who lives in a box under a highway overpass...
--Mike Bell gets his first carry, and while it wasn't pretty it does net the offense a first down.
--Travis Henry is the MAN!!A TD if he doesn't step out of bounds, Henry is leaving Raider defenders in his wake. First and Ten after the timeout.
--TWO MINUTE WARNING -- BRONCOS 14 - Raiders 3
--Coming up to a minute left in the half, and the Broncos face a third and 4 from the 10
--Broncos come up short, and will look to extend the lead to 14 with the FG. It's GOOD!
--BRONCOS 17 - Raiders 3 (10 plays, 67 yards, 5:18)

The Kickoff and a kneel down are about all that remains in what has been a long, albeit successful, first half.

HALFTIME -- BRONCOS 17 - Raiders 3

Bad Storm...
heading right for Denver so the League wants the fans and players to head for cover....

by TheSportsGuru on Sep 16, 2007 2:54 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Thunderstorm moving through
They pulled both teams off the field because lighning strikes were nearby.  I would guess it will restart in about a half hour.

Glad I picked next week to travel to Denver (even though I would much rather see the Broncos beat the Raiders than Jags)

Thx
I never heard of sth like that before during a game. Storm - ok - but not that they interrupt the game.

Nevertheless it's a good decision, safety goes first.

Cleveland Browns - wow
TSG - You must be as shocked as I was by the way that game turned out.  I wonder what would happen if the Bengals D went up against the Notre Dame offense.

by MattR on Sep 16, 2007 2:57 PM MDT   0 recs

Oh well
I was more than surprised. This result just looks like an AFL-game :P

Besides I never suspected the Browns to beat the Bengals...

by DjBroncos on Sep 16, 2007 3:00 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

Truly shocked...
Almost as shocked as watching the Chiefs actually punt to Devin Hestor...Oops...Bears 14-0....Man, the Chiefs really suck!

As for the Bengals, I watched alot of that Browns game, Braylon Edwards was wide, wide, wide open several times.  That defense is awful!

The five of us who chose
Cincy for the SBN Survival Football league, uh, yeah, look foolish. But you went with the Steelers . . .

Chiefs
They are 0:14 after a PR TD - this gonna be a long night for them, just as for the Raiders.

Interactive Weather map
If anyone is interested: Weather Channel map of Denver  If you zoom in a few times you can find Mile High Stadium (it is labeled on the map)

Don't worry.  The game will start soon.  I just decided to go grab dinner now instead of waiting for halftime and I guarantee the game will be back before I am.

I can't watch the game right now...
ESPN scoreboard says 3rd an 9 for OAK....is that before the INT?

by Donkey on Sep 16, 2007 3:14 PM MDT   0 recs

Yes....
The INT happened on the 3rd and nine...It will be 1st and ten for the Broncos when they resume play...

THose of you who can't watch...
Try This....

guys, watching games online:
http://streamednfl.blogspot.com/

download the "TVUPlayer" (or the other player, but the quality isn't as good) and then click on the TVU link for the game you're interested in. i'm watching the broncos game now, and the quality isn't too bad either!

by TheSportsGuru on Sep 16, 2007 3:34 PM MDT   0 recs

Great!
Thank you very much! It has a delay, of course, but I'm glad to see some (almost) live action =)

by DjBroncos on Sep 16, 2007 3:40 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

The delay is pretty bad
I know the Internet radio has a bit of a delay, but the TVU player is way behind that.  I gave up watching and am going with the Internet radio to follow the game and am using the TVU for replays.

by MattR on Sep 16, 2007 3:52 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

this page is
keeping up with the game faster than ESPN...really wish I could watch though
