Travis Henry Will Remain With Broncos

As first reported in today's Horse Tracks, Travis Henry has agreed to a restructured contract with the Broncos, assuring his spot on the 2008 squad.  This had been the belief in these parts for a couple of weeks now, after Henry stated his desire to 'make it right' with the Broncos.

This was a key move for the Broncos, especially after Shanny publically professed that Selvin Young was not the type of back that could carry the ball 25 times a game.  That admission essentialy told the world that the Broncos were going to add a back at some point, whether it was a move with Henry, or another available running back.

"Travis wants to make it right in Denver," his agent, Hadley Engelhard, said Wednesday. "That is the big reason why he is back. He thinks it can work there."

Engelhard did not disclose the terms of the restructured deal. Originally, the Broncos would have owed a large portion of a $6 million option bonus to Henry on Feb. 29. Henry still has four years remaining on his contract.

Last March, Henry signed a five-year, $22.5 million deal with Denver after being a salary cap casualty at Tennessee. Henry received a $12 million bonus as part of the contract.

Henry's troubles on and off the field in 2007 are well documented, but he was highly effective before getting hurt.  Add in a second injury, and the entire positive drug test fiasco, and 2007 became a complete waste.  With this new, cap/team friendly deal in place, Henry gets to clear his name while the Broncos avoid paying $6 million dollars to a high-risk player.  A win-win for both sides...

I like it....
this shows that Henry is committed to the team and if he screws up, he is done.
We are all undefeated now!

Now Walker Should Do The Same...
Walker should look to Henry as an example of someone willing to work out something with the team before he mouths off saying he wants outta here.  Too bad Walker won't do the same.  As mad as I am that he made them comments I wish the light would come on to realize that he might not get what he is getting in Denver anywhere else and stick around to prove himself.

I may change my opinion of Henry
if he does "make it right".  ie, 1500yds, 15TDs. :)

I still believe we will need a franchise running back to win the Super Bowl.  Shanahan's blue print for success hinges on a dominant running back/game decider.

Excellent!
This goes a long ways towards helping the team.  Not only do we save much needed money, but we can focus our reloading needs on other positions.

If the Walker situation can be salvaged too...

He has also invested
some pride in the Broncos now. He has to prove he can make it wright. 2008 will decide what to think of Henry.

Even if he doesn't produce high numbers, my thoughts of him has already gotten better. But, he might betray his fans by comitting some sort of crime - drugs, violence, weapons or drunk-drinving - like he has done so many times before...

Wooooooo
This is exactly what I was hoping for.  Now we have a two headed monster at running back (Hopefully Healthy).  We also have some cap room cleared up.  Class move by Henry and Shanny.  As for Walker screw him, no one opens there mouth and stays. Walker we don't need you and your mo Hawk.

Later today I'm going to post a Diary on what I think the Broncos should do Via Free agency and the draft.

Off To Geosciences class to discuss stars. Yay!! Sike!!
Peace!!!

IF...
I'm going to go out on a limb and project Travis HEnry to have a career year with the Broncos in 2008 IF he can stay reasonable healthy and out of trouble.  His raw totals may not reach those of his 2002-2004 torrid stretch (656 carries, 2,794 yards and 23 TD) in Buffalo, but his average numbers should be better.  He flashed impressive potential before the wheels came off last season and I'm willing to go on that.  With Young in there to spell/complement him, Denver will once again take its place among the leagues elite rushing attacks.  Maybe I'm being to optimistic, but I'll take that chance.  Right now, I believe in Henry's potential.

ABC Afterschool Story: Travis Henry
All joking aside, 2008 could be a redemptive year for Henry.  If he has matured and is willing to lay off the Mary Jane till he retires, than I bid him good luck and god speed.

Good move by ooth parties!
I'm glad that both sides were able to work together.  Henry is a powerful back who runs hard and can absorb a beating.  There aren't very many other RBs in the league who can offer a comparable set of skills.

He may be dumb...
but he ain't stupid.

The Broncos pretty much had him over a barrel. I don't think he'd have found much interest anywhere else, with his "troubles" and his injuries and with this year's draft class being pretty solid. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Donks brought in someone else, too, either drafting another RB or through FA.

Henry is an unreliable solution and re-signing him does little to stablize the RB situation.

Or so I'm told.

We will definitely
bring in a RB late in the draft.  I would say free agency is an option except that Denver does so much better at cultivating their own talent.  Unless of course you meant college free-agent, which is also very highly likely.

I am behind Henry, but it would be foolish to hang our hats on him, at least until after he has proven himself...
