Tatum Bell To Steal Lion's Money For Another Season

Unable to get a deal done with Julius Jones, the Detroit Lions re-signed RB Tatum Bell.  Bell, a complete bust for the Broncos was traded to the Lions, along with OL George Foster, in a deal to acquire CB Dre Bly last Re-Building Season.

The deal calls for Bell to get $1.6 million for 1 year, which comes just days after Foster received a 1 year/$1.1 million contract to remain in Motown.

With Kevin Jones coming off a torn ACL, Bell will be given the chance to start this season. He started four games for the Lions in 2007 and had 182 yards on 44 carries last year.

In his final season with the Broncos in 2006, Bell had 1,025 yards and a 4.4-yard average. On any given play, Bell has the ability to break a long run because he has great speed and elusiveness. He also has an uncanny talent to fumble in key moments.

If Bell has a great season, he is hoping to hit a big payday in 2009.

Keep hoping <fum>Bell....Keep hoping...

Ha ha
I only wish San Diego or KC had signed him and cut their big boy backs. It would be a dream come true. no more LT or LJ and Bell at the back.

Forgot to mention
Bell was one of the all-time greats at the self-tackle. It was pure magic just watching him break into the open, get ahead of his feet and go down untouched. I still miss his signature ground-slap, fist-clench after such plays.....ah, the good old days. I honestly don't think Detroit really realizes what they have.
Or so I'm told.

I hate to be a buzzkill, but
aren't we also signing and spending on garbage players from other teams this year too?

How is that saying?  One man's garbage is another man's treasure?  Perhaps Tatum has found a good home in Detroit.  Perhaps he has perfected the ability to go down before anyone touches him, therefore, making him fumble less.  ;)

It depends
see I think our signings are good ones. We sign guys who are being cut released because teams are looking for depth from the draft or CFA's and making them our starters and bringing in our depth too.

Bell's blah 2007 makes the Bly trade look all the
better.  I wonder why Detroit was willing to trade him for those two underachievers?
