DeWayne Robertson
Looks like the Broncos are still making efforts to land this guy. Could be for Foxey.
I'll take him
OK, replying ot my own post, but...
Sounds like Foxey may not be part of the Robertson deal, but some other unnamed player. No idea who that could be. My guess is that the only holdup at this point is this guy's contract. While I am concerned about his knees (Shefter reports that his knee in bad shape), if the Broncos can get that contract changed up, he'd be a good addition. Especially if it doesn't involve Foxworth.
IMO - Newsday and other NY tabloids
(And in some way they are right. If you write a series of articles with anonymous sources that talk about a player being disgruntled with the team and the team being fed up with the player, all of a sudden there is doubt between the player and team that should never have existed)
That's right Donkey Fans....The Raiders.....
The addition of Drew Carter means that the Raiders have a good, not great, but a good top 3 WRs. Javon, if healthy, will be a quality #1. Some Donkey fans are bitter about Javon's time in Denver, and rightfully so, but that doesn't diminish his capabilities when healthy.
Yes the Raiders, with the addition of Carter, have 3 WRs with previous leg problems. Curry had his achilles problems, but is two years removed, and had a good year last season; Carter I believe tore his ACL (not sure) in his Rookie season, but he is three years removed and had his best season last year; and Javon. Like most players with knee injuries, Javon should be better in year two than year one post surgery. Thank you modern medical science.
By the way since the article posted says absolutly nothing about Carters abilities and very little on stats, check this out. Its not much, but its a bit more info on the 3rd WR that will be catching ball against you next season.

If you don't have insider, then you can still check his stats here.

Enjoy, and prepare your minds for the possibility of McFadden running all over the Donkeys. It doesn't fill any needs, but it would still be beautiful.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
sorry I wasn't sure if you were joking or not. I was just wondering. can you give me an example of a receiver who had a 1200-1500yd season after surgery on his knees or any of the other above injuries? I'm sure walker is an upgrade from people who hate your team (Moss Rice Porter) but like Guru always says, they are free agents for a reason. There are enough ways to keep a player and work on deals before they become free agents. Your team has a tendency to attract egos. javon is definitely an ego. Also I remember reading an article early on that said Chad Johnson said he wanted a trade and would go to Miami but wouldn't go to oakland. Miami over the bay? wow! thats all I have to say is wow!as for mcfadden, you may get him but he may end up holding out on you like russel. I like a healthy competition and I do hope you guys get better because I am tired of being SHOCKED by the fact you beat us. I want it to be thrilling and down to the wire so I can say we beat oakland twice and people respect that.SO build and get better please so that you stand at 6-10 this year and 7-9 for the next 30 years.

At one point
Johnny Lee Higgins......
About the Javon Walker Deal: Al Davis is Loaded, gets huge merchandise revenues thanks to the Raider Nation consumers that put the Raiders at or near the top of the league in Merchandise sales every year, and get revenues from the rest of the league due to the Raiders small market presence. Filthy Rich, in fact, and has never had a problem spending money to make the Raiders better. All this talk about money around the league is just hoopla. Everyone knows Al will spend the cheese if he thinks he can improve the Raiders. Also, with talks of a possible lockout in a season or two, there might not even be a cap in a few years. Again, all this talk of the Raiders overspending just doesn't matter when the present and future state of the cap system, and Al Davis are considered.
You Donkey fans can buy into the hype all you want, but it really makes no difference. Truth is, ESPN and most media love to hate on the Raiders, so they report rediculous rumors and stories like "the Raiders are Overspending!" Not one rumor in the past six months, short of Lofton being hired as a WR coach (though most believed he was to be the new HC after Kiff was fired. Ha! Ridiculous!).
So you see my man, it all good in Raider Land!!
OakFoSho
LOL! Not one rumor.....
1. I made no such statement.....
- Jerry Rice does not hate the Raiders, in fact he left on great terms, especially with the fans, aka The Nation.
- Chad Johnson actually said exactly the opposite. He said on camera, on Jim Rome, "Al come and get me from Cincy". It got so blown up that they repeated it on SportsCenter for like 2 days. Again, son't make stuff up, especially if it is COMPLETELY wrong, aka the opposite t=of the truth.
- I'm glad you want us to get better, and we have, so thanks.

Raiders
Enjoy another losing season...
Focker out
So you like to steal others lines........
Denial is not a River in Egypt!
Leave the word 'just' out of the phrase. The point of the joke is grammatical, and by adding 'just' the focus of the line is taken off the word 'denial', and placed on 'a river in Egypt'. The joke, when written correctly, highlights what 'denial' is, IE not a river in Egypt. Using 'just' attributes two specific meanings to the word 'denial', IE its a river in Egypt, and something else. However, since 'denial', as used in the joke, is a state of being, it obviously cannot be a physical object at the same time. Its a word play, with a single meaning. I know this because I tutor grammar school kids in English Writing, and this is a joke that was in their text book.
So, if you are going to steal someones lines, then at least get them correct.

Let's get something out of the way.
I don't point that out to bring you down. I hold two graduate degrees (one in education and one in political science) and have taught everything from 6th grade (most of my career) to grad school. Despite that fact, I too am a terrible speller and make frequent errors in grammer, punctuation, etc.
All of our readers have demonstrated themselves to be highly educated (whether they have a formal education or because of life experience). And yet each of us is going to make errors in English either because we are focused on time constraints, informality amongst friends, or a combination of the two.
You'll learn that a big part of your education is going to be focused on relationg to people, including those with whom you disagree. Taking shots at how well someone writes isn't doing you any credit.
On an entirely different subject:
I'm going to disagree with a lot of my fellow Broncos fans and applaud oak for their acquistion of Walker. A lot of us were unhappy with Walker's attitude and were glad to see him leave. A lot of Denver fans are glad that oakland overpayed Walker, and expect his knee to be a major issue. For what it's worth, I think Walker is an exceptonal WR and will help better the oak pass offense.
I think he IS overpayed at this point (given the potential for microfracture surgery in the next couple of years). But I also believe he gave us a solid year after the injury he sustatined while playing for GB, and I think the injury issues he had in '07 were unrelated (my opinion). I hope I'm wrong (of course), but I expect Walker to give oak fans something to cheer about on more than a few plays.

Normally I would not care about.....
I take exception here, because he stole my line after I used it up and down this site, and because the line itself is a GRAMMAR JOKE!
I took exception in your case, because the legality of the cut and chop blocks is very important, and should not be confused or mistaken.
On Walker, thank you for the objective thoughts, and I agree. If healthy, he will be as productive as ever, and a definite #1. Of course, if injured, it's an F, but thats the risk you take in a depleted FA market when your Al Davis, and you want to get back on top
OakFoSho
I wasn't aware...
You'll find in my article (zone blocking) that the term "cut block" is a method term used by coaches and players. It is not a term used in conjunction with penalties in the NFL's rule book.
The only blocks addressed are:
clipping
crackback
illegal block below the waist
illegal block above the waist
chop blocking
If you are getting your definitions from different sites on the internet or from sports magazines and not straight from the NFL rule book, you'll find a lot of definitions that are wrong or only partialy correct. (Even NFL.com, the official site of the NFL, doesn't list all of the penalties and definitions that the rule book does).
In my experience, chop blocking is perhaps one of the most misunderstood terms in football. As you realize, it has nothing to do with cut blocking. But you continue to confuse a method term with a rules term. Cut blocking is a method (like zone coverage is a method term). Chop blocking (which isn't even a cut block) is a rules violation.

Fair Enough but.........
About the receiver you mentioned, who's name I will not mention, he was with the team for 2 years, not 3, and his first season was actually OK. 1005 yards rec, and 60 rec. Not Great, but not terrible. Obviously he quit on the team, and is a loser because of it, in year 2.
The last time the Raiders picked up a bunch of FAs, other than that particular WR, we went to the Super Bowl, so your statement about players viewing Oakland as a payday is obviously false. When the WR did come to Oakland, things were looking up, but then injuries hit, and the remaining old guys from the SB run of 2003 retired or went elsewhere as the Raiders began a rebuild. That is why the WR quit in year 2.
OakFoSho
I don't know if it is false

After the SB loss......
That team, in 2004 when Gannon was injured, was assembled as a last chance for a SB run, and if Gannon was healthy I believe they would have had a great shot, and they certainly would have made the playoffs.
Unfortunately, when you take the MVP away from any team, (God I Miss Gannon!) they will struggle, and thus began the four year disaster that has been the Raiders. Last year however was the turning point, and with all these signings, I believe that the Raiders are definitely back.

Sorry about the repost, but I wanted this to be a reply not a new section.

Big name free agents?
Other than Lynch, I can't think of any impact players on defense that were free agents. All of the other big and medium name players ended up being just a bunch of temps, it would have been better to get more draft choices than those tired veterans. Fortunately, most of the trades have been productive (Bailey, Bly). It seems like the draft failures have been balanced out with the good trades.
Bottom line, I am glad we are not chasing big name free agents this time around.
Depends on how you define big name
Graham is the best blocking TE in the League in my opinion, while Stokely is the best slot specialist in the game. They wouldn't be considered "elite" in terms of starting (Stokely is a #3 and Graham is our #2), but they are the best at what they do. Holland is solid, though not elite. And I trust Ramsey as a veteran (though back-up) QB.
Even if we disagree on what makes a player "big name", I agree with you that we are doing the right thing by avoiding major names. (BTW, I'm sure I'm in the minority on what makes a big name. To me, if a player is a depth player, but the best player at that depth that can be found, that's a big name. To me, there is no better blocking TE or slot receiver than Graham/Stokely).
