Here's a Tuesday edition of Horse Tracks.  Enjoy!

NFL News

Unlike the league's debt issues, the NFL is reporting a 20% drop in crime by players.  The only question I have is why isn't it dropped more?  See here

Hey, man, hope you're feeling better today. I like the new Horse Tracks logo.
Or so I'm told.

I feel slightly better....
but I'm still fighting a cold.  Thanks.  Give the logo credit to Guru.

Guru, will the new logo work with the new format that will launch on MHR?

I used to be like Glann Martinez....
then I turned 30. I have no trouble with putting ON weight anymore. It's a struggle the other way now :)

It's sickening reading something like that...
the only thing that keeps me happy is having a low cholesterol number, but it is not making me any skinnier!

I've been like Martinez my whole life,
but I am turning 30 this year, should I be worried now?

If I have a vice...
...it is definetly eating.  I'm well past 30, and still eat like a pig without gaining any weight.  On the other hand, I excercise regularly too.

I love to cook, love to eat, and have more cookbooks than any woman that I know (and I use them too!)

If Kevin Spacey (from the movie "Seven") comes after me for gluttony, I'm in BIG trouble.

There's no such thing as overeating, just
undertraining.  When I used to do a lot of commercial fishing, the long hours kept me at a minimal bodyfat.  Now I am a full time soldier but I work in an office so I have to lift and run to stay in shape.

I will use this post to put in a plug for lifting.  Lifting will NOT make people slow and musclebound, the lack of flexibility after lifting is usually due to muscle fatigue from lactic acid buildup.  Lack of flexibility is also caused by not stretching properly.  Gaining muscle mass will not cause the normal person to become slower, it will actually increase speed, as lifting requires a lot of quick twitch muscle exertion.  Muscle mass also has more twice the density of fat tissue, so a person could actually be gaining body weight while decreasing body fat percentage.

The older you get, the more you appreciate activities that have minimal chance for injury.  Since lifting doesn't require fast stops and starts or changes of direction, there is very little chance for injury if proper techniques is used.  I hope this motivates my fellow Bronco fans to stay on the iron!

I feel for Glen
I am that way now and I am 34.I wanted to bulk up for boxing and I couldn't. Was frustrating. What I don't get is why 200Lbs?
shouldn't that slow him down? I am his size and I couldn't imagine that extra weight.

I was the same way
coming out of high school I was fast but struggled to stay at a whopping 140lbs!  I took a job in the Bering Sea a year later and got physically hammered and beat down.  After my first season I had a lot of time (in between spending sprees) so I committed myself to finding a way to put on weight and keep it.  I did something similar to what Martinez sounds like he is doing:  six meals a day with ample fluids, monitoring portion sizes and doubling my carbohydrate intake.  Half the meals were fresh veggies and whole grains, the other half were supplement style meal replacements.  I coupled this with a series of three month workout programs that took about 40 minutes a day and alternated weight training and aerobic.  The first time through this gauntlet I got up to 180 and stayed there, and the subsequent times through got me up to 200 where I am at now.  I don't find it difficult to stay at this level now, though I find during the summer I usually have to pay attention to my calories and make sure I am getting enough, and during the winter I usually do one 3-month training program to help stay below 210 or so.  The older I get the longer winter seems. :)

Of course every body is different and responds differently, but I am confident that we can all have exactly the body and build we want with enough effort and patience.  And I think it is by far easier to lose weight for someone who puts on the punds easy, than it is for someone to gain weight who has difficulty keeping the pounds on.  Our natural metabolisms can sometimes be a real bear.

P.S.  Welcome to MHR!

I wish my sig was as cool as mdierks!

Haven't seen this posted yet...
Yahoo! Sports is reporting a different story about Marshall's injury. According to this, the NFL Network reported an entirely different story from Marshall himself, both about the cause and the severity of the injury.

The good news is that...
...the story that Marshall gives matches the story that MHR has given (and I like to get my news from MHR).  : )

Thanks for the welcome
I have long enjoyed this site. Keep up the great work.  But it is getting closer to the draft and no outlet except the I-net. Thank goodness for that or I would go crazy.

I also wanted to say I will miss Rod Smith, one classy player. I hope he becomes a coach of some sort. I like what direction The Broncos are taking. I would like to say Thanks Elam you will be missed. And what am I crazy but Cuts looks to be one sick QB.

Hope B- Marsh can come out OK from this. I believe him too. I have thousands of stitches from wrestling with the fam also. Them were the days.

Shoot why I am at it Sheff is sick also, I like that Cuts likes him too. Would I be crazy to want to draft that Cromartie guy. C'mon anything like his cuz ,WOW,is all I have to say about this guy.

Well that felt good, I will not vent any more..

For the love of the animals.
