With The 4th Pick In The 2008 MHR Community Mock Draft...

The Oakland Raiders select.....

DARREN MCFADDEN, RB - ARKANSAS

G.M. - BCFunderburke -- Many prognosticators believe the Raiders won't add yet another RB to their already RB-deep roster. However, this fails to account for the following assumptions held by the Raiders' front office:

  1. Raiders will trade LaMont Jordan and/or Dominic Rhodes before the draft, thereby clearing out space for the new Run DMC and his 4.27 40 time,
  2. Gholston, though a tempting selection, doesn't get Davis' heart ticking like McFadden. Burgess, their current DE, is a good enough and still relatively young.
  3. Nobody offers them a sweet enough deal to trade down. I didn't hear a word from Dallas, for example.
  4. McFadden gives the Raiders an explosive offensive weapon, in their mind, that can play both RB and WR (ala Reggie Bush).
"Just win, baby!", "Commitment to Excellence", and now, "I'll Draft Who I Want Because I'm Almost Dead!"

Forever yours,
Al Davis

Leave it to Big Al to come through with the McFadden pick.  Nothing like completely ignoring the needs of your team and going with more flash.  Sad thing is, that is how Al does business, which is why the Raiders are irrelevant.

The Draft So Far --

#1 - Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia
#2 - St. Louis Rams - OT Jake Long, Michigan
#3 - Atlanta Falcons - DT Glen Dorsey, LSU

The Kansas City Chiefs, represented by jonnyr44, are on the clock.  Something tells me there might be some action with Pick #5....

Realism at its best
It would be a complete embarrassment if the Denver Broncos fan site failed to predict another incompetent pick from Oakland.  They did select Michael Bush last year and Fargas had a breakout year.  Still, Al Davis likes to draft the corvettes (Quote:  "Julius is like an exotic car, he's performs really well but he's always in the shop" -Bill Parcels), and McFadden certainly is that player.  Since we know Lane has no input into the process, its a safe bet to assume this pick will get botched.

That being said, I don't think McFadden is the best RB in this years draft.  For my money, give me Mendenhall.  That big price tag would certainly add some cap commitments for a QB and a RB.  Now they just need to find 6 guys who can keep them on the field long enough to make a play.  Good luck, Al!

If sanity prevailed...
the Faders would trade down or select Gholston.  I consulted Fader Nation and they really think they'll move some of their driftwood RBs before the draft. Either way, this was fun. Looking forward to how KC drafts now. Do they go with need (QB/OL), stud DE or trade down for additional picks???

good pick
Although Dallas likes Darren McFadden it would have cost too many draft picks for him.  I can still pick a quality back with the 22nd selection.

The Car
is a prime example of the raiders. Pimping out what is a wasted entity! Let make our car look all nice and shinny even if the engine will explode the minuet you start it up! Now McFadden like Russell who looked to have a brilliant career in the NFL will have a five - six year dumbing down process and will be irrelevant until someone helps them get out of that raider funk

I Cc:'d him when I made my selection...
I think KC is operating just like they would in real life--dazed and confused. Let's go, Herm!

The more time i haer of this
pick, the more i like it.

I mean, Al Davis, can't possibly throw more money at defense, and they get a player who will make life easier for JaCircus Russell.

So in a way i don't like it, because i think it's the right thing for oAK to do. Potential down-trading possibillities might change my oppinion, but if they stay at #4, they should pick RunDMC - IMO...

I like it too, because we all know
how well teams do when they have Top 10 picks year in and year out...they usually continue to have Top 10 picks year in and year out. ;)

How many Top 10 draft picks have the Detroit Lions and the Arizona Cardinals have this decade?  Or the Cardinals, Lions, Rams and Bengals of the 90's?

Top 10 picks seem to ensure a teams nonsuccess, at least when that team has Top 10 picks three or more years in a row...

Actually...
I'm a sucker for SI.com...

Don Banks wrote a great part on the exact same topic:

Dang, that article was written 3 days ago...
but then again I've heard Guru talk about having high draft picks doesn't necessarily translate to success in the National Football League.

I think that was last year even.  ;)

Don Banks is wrong about the
Colts going 20 consecutive years without a 10 win season is flat out wrong.  Jim Harbaugh led the Colts to a 12 win season and nearly took them to the Super Bowl, but they lost to the Steelers in 1995 in the AFC Championship game. ;)
