With the 6th Pick In The 2008 MHR Community Mock Draft

The New York Jets, represented by MattR select....

LEODIS MCKELVIN, CB - TROY ST.

G.M. - MattR -- This is probably the Jets nightmare scenario (although Vernon Gholston becoming the Jets' Mike Mamula was probably their fans biggest nightmare).
While part of me regrets passing on the chance to move up and grab McFadden, staying put was still the right move.  The Jets traded away their third and fifth round picks for DT Kris Jenkins and the team is just not good enough to come out of the draft with only two players from the first five rounds.

The best player available is probably Sedrick Ellis, but he can't play DE in a 3-4 so I think the Jets will pass.  Matt Ryan is another option here, but Kellen Clemens was a second round pick in 2006 so I think the team will give Clemens a bit more time.

It is very likely the Jets would look to move down a few spots (Denver might be a possibility with Ellis available).  But in the interest of keeping things moving, the Jets will make their pick and take CB Leodis McKelvin of Troy St.  He's the top CB on most draft boards and will pair nicely with last years first round pick Darrelle Revis.  It has the added bonus of taking a player the Patriots could be targeting with the next pick.

The Draft So Far --

#1 - Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia
#2 - St. Louis Rams - OT Jake Long, Michigan
#3 - Atlanta Falcons - DT Glen Dorsey, LSU
#4 - Oakland Raiders - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
#5 - Philadelphia Eagles(via Trade w/ K.C. Chiefs) - DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio St.

The New England Patriots, represented by TommyTSlice are on the clock, followed by Baltimore and Rexx.

Solid Pick.
I like your reasoning and think you made a good choice, all things considered.  Kudos and good luck!

Good Choice
I send a couple of trade proposals your way at around 3pm, I guess you didn't receive them.  Anyway, I like the pick; I also like the Patriot's twist.

I actually think
this would be a pick that Denver would do for Ellis. I am all for my Trojan joining the Broncos. I also like the screwing the patriots.

At this pace
we will only be able to get 1st and a bit of 2nd round done by draftday...

Just saying...

agree with Claaaaas...
I can only imagine potential trades are causing the slow down. Channel Mike Ditka, throw caution to the wind and draft... :)

I am back around
Had a bit of a medical issue pop up after I sent in my trade proposal (and Jets backup pick for when the trade fell through).  I completely understand why the trade was not allowed and I only offered it after seeing Lito Shpeherd get traded.  Oh the other hand, if the top 5 go down the way they have in this mock, I would be very upset to learn that Denver turned down a similar proposal.

I am as big a fan of Foxworth as anyone else, but both he and Paymah are probably both gone after this season.  Maybe we can find a way to keep one, but definitely not both so I am all for trading either one now if we can get value.  I saw some folks complain about giving up 2 second day picks, but Denver would still have had a 4th, a 5th, a 6th and 2 7ths.  (This was also the part of the trade that could have been changed a bit if needed).  In my mind, trading up to get Ellis would free up at least one 2nd day pick that was gonna be another DT so losing the late round picks did not bother me.

I agree with your assessment of the 2nd day pick
It is our responsibility as a DT needy team to pursue a top tier DT that falls out of the top 5.  If the only thing we fix in this draft is our rotation at DT, that will be more than enough to see a turnaround with this defense, especially in light of all our offseason moves to date.
I wish my sig was as cool as mdierks!
