Marlon McCree also signed at SAF

Marlon McCree has also been signed at SAF.  Hat Tip to nycbroncosfan for the scoop.  Link is below.

I don't have much to add.  McCree has some fans at MHR, and this should make some folks happy.  I like the idea that Denver is going for some depth at the SAF position, and perhaps abandoning the CB/SAF hybrid approach.

It looks like SAF and LB positions are settled.  Now the draft can focus on WR, DT, and OL depth.  I'm feeling good about where we are as a team right now!

I'm feeling good, too
Instead of swinging for the fences in free agency and dancing on the salary cap precipice, the Broncos are getting the guys they want at a price they can afford. We're methodically solidifying positions, first linebacker, now safety, and building depth, special teams expertise, and salary cap room. I see we decided to take all of the salary cap hit on Gold and Walker now instead of deferring part of it until next year, another indication that the Broncos have shed their mortgage-the-future approach. Maybe by the time our young players become solid veterans or stars we'll be able to afford to keep them, unlike past years when we kept losing our best defensive linemen to free agency.

I agree
This is an approach that takes patience, and isn't always a fan pleasing way to go.  It's hard to pass up on the big names.

But we will have the money down the road, the depth, and the core group of young guys developing.  Funny thing is, despite our measured approach to building this year, I still think we will see immediate dividends.  I see us gaining in terms of number of wins for the next several years, with the ability to sustain an excellent team for several years thereafter.

You guys nailed it
Denver has completely changed their personnel strategy.  This is the about the closest to an admission by the Broncos that thier strategy over the past handfull of seasons hasn't worked out.  I'm impressed with the caliber of talent that Denver's brought in, while maintaining a close to ideal cap figure moving toward the draft.

Depth was certainly an issue for Denver at Safety in 2007 and that situation has been corrected, in fact I think Denver would say that eveything has worked out exactly as they'd hoped at the safety position.

Credit Denver for some moves...
...in the recent past though.  We have an awsome group at DE and CB on defense, and an excellent group at QB, HB, and TE.

SAF and LB seem fixed for now, and the OL looks good but thin.  We have are very good at #1 WR and slot, so we just need to hope for a good #2 WR pick up somewhere.  Add in at least one solid DT and we have a core to build on.

In a matter of days Denver has addressed two areas of the team in trouble (LB and SAF) without breaking the bank.  This buys them time over the next year or two to bring in youth.

And as I've been saying, the nice thing about it is Shanahan has found a way to build the team the right way (slowly and carefuly) without breaking the team to do it.  I fully expect the team to show improvement for the next three years, and then having the youth to sustain the excellence.

I'm hoping for a shot or near miss at wildcard in '08, playoffs in '09, and deep playoffs or SB for a few years thereafter.

The Future.
I do believe I've been saying this for quite some time.  This is not a team that can be expected to compete for championships in the near future.  We can hope for a challenger in '09, but it's far from a certainty.  I like that management has taken a more sensible approach to roster building and they're really narrowing the focus of our early draft picks.  At this point, DT is the only spot where we can expect to draft a potential starter now.  WR and OL are the next and the rest is depth/projects for the more distant future.
