DraftTek Mock Draft....Comments

The team reps over at Draft-Tek are holding yet another Mock Draft, with yours truly handling matters for the Broncos.

After a deal with Minnesota to gain that elusive 3rd round pick fell through(Minnesota made the deal with Buffalo at #11 instead) I was approached by the Detroit GM with a trade offer I felt was nearly as attractive --

DEN gets #15 and #87
DET gets #12 and #119

It was attractive, but I still wanted to be a bit higher in the 3rd round, especially if I had to give up a 4th rounder. Since Detroit has 2 3rd round picks, I countered with the following -

DEN gets #15 and #76
DET gets #12 and #119

It is nearly the same as the proposed Minnesota trade that we have talked so much about, so I jumped at it. We gave up a 4th rounder to be 2 spots closer in the 1st round and we still get a decent 3rd round pick. Now, the only questions is who to target at 15.

I will add the list of picks to date in a bit.... Right now, I want to get your thoughts on the trade... Like? Dislike?

Before judging:

I would like to know who you are planning to pick in the 1st round in both scenarios...

For starters i like it. Actually i like both - the second one the best, of course.

BPA!

Best Player Available...The goal was to save a bit of money while adding a 3rd rounder. We still have the early 4th rounder so we are ok there as well.

I feel better about possibly taking Chris Williams at #15 than at #12, if that is the direction I decide to go.

Do you think...

Detroit is going after Mendenhall?

It wont break my heart to see C. Williams at 15, or 12 for that matter. The longer I look at this, the more I hope we trade way down.

Inperfect Information.

What I know about this, I like. That said, it'd help to know what has gone on in the top 11 so I can know the potential cost of trading down.

I have to sort through a bunch of e-mails. I will say the Vikings moved ahead of the Broncos to get Derrick Harvey at 11

for the higher third rounder is more than fair, but:

If the Broncos got that offer...

They'd take it in a heartbeat. Good work. Denver has so many picks after the third round that any way we can concentrate our talent a little more in the first three rounds, I say, go for it.

The trade was made...

And the Lions ended up taking Clady, which is fine with me....

I liked the first offer too, but I liked the gutsy move to counter offer. It worked, and you made the right call. Bravo!

The suspense is killing me.

I will probably be a real basket case come draft day. Without knowing who has been picked it is difficult to asses the trade but it sure looks good from afar. Chris Williams should be available at 15 and fits the bill of BPA and fills an important need for us. Thats my 2 cents.

I like the second trade. #15 should be just about right.

It is high enough that we might be able to make another trade down and earn one more 3rd rounder.

You fumbled in the red zone man! What happened? Who did you pick? Or is this one of these one pick a day drafts? At this rate I'll be having my own coronary on the real draft day!

The 2008 draft might very well be the most important of Shannahan's career.
