Hi,
MHR is a great site. I may never contribute but I will enjoy.
I spent my childhood near Park City Utah, mid 50's early 60's, where the only networks we had were NBC and on good days ABC. NBC picked up the AFL and I saw the Broncos before I knew about the Cowboys or Greenbay.
I now live in Spokane, WA. Selling cars to pay bills and wondering why I got a degree in chemical engineering instead of History. I cry as I watch History re-written in this country. It makes believing in The Father and Jesus (eternal) and love of a team the only connects to sanity.

About our Pass Rush
I'm a little 'let's say curious' (to avoid saying concerned) about our lack of pass-rush this pre-season. Other than Doom any pass-rush seems to be, may I say it this way, 'not there'.
My 'curiousity' isn't about the number of sacks--its the lack of preasure. I know we had our way with the Cowboys--there was little to not like about that game--funny its our only win.
Why did Matt Schaub and Aaron Rogers look like young Joe Montanas? You guys may disagree with me--but the stats seem to back me up--and neither Matt or Aaron had Jerry Rice. I have a thought, however, which may keep me in la-la-land until la-la-land throws me out.
Last year teams ran thru us, over us, around us--and when they got the ball again--they ran around us, thru us, and then overs us for another TD. It is obvious that Shanny has said, "Stop over us, around us, and thru us. Stop the run and stop the run now!" Shanny has told someone, "This must be done--stop the run." This we have done--pretty good at least. If I was a player on this defense I would look at every early down as, "Stop the Run." Even on third and long, in the back of my mind, I would still be thinking, "Don't let them run." Last year was so funny--teams ran over us and beat us up--and then ran over us again--this will not happen this year.
When Moss and Crowder came in we had a good defense--Bates made that no longer true--yet, even as rookies they were told to make a difference. What is that all about? No young player can make a difference in a failed scheme with old fat players as the foundation. As you can tell........I did not like last year.
This year Moss (who, after his injury should be called a rookie) and Crowder, (who I think will surprise some this year) have one thing on their young minds, "STOP THE RUN!" I think it has been drilled into them to the point where they got the point. I don't know about you...if I was a young player on an NFL team and told, "DO THIS!!!"' I would take it 'do it' and do it.
Moss and Crowder came into a bad defensive scheme that was 'YEECHH' from the beginning. The fun with this team is Cutler will give Moss and Crowder a chance to grow. Sometime this season they will grow, 'see something'..tis not'a run' and go for it.....
Sacks after the vanilla of pre-season............I think so......................13-3 Zappa

You guys are Special
I have had a lot of fun going to different SB football sites. I am always kind--make some comments--and sometimes a post.
You guys should explore. The are many sites where the last fan post is 4-5-6 & 7 days old (our fan posts are off-the-board in 1 or 2 days). I make some comments and sometimes ( if I'm lucky) get a response.
I'm like every other Bronco Fan that hates your team with a deep passion--but you Raider Fans are something special--I can't help but like you. You love your team and don't stop--you don't stop loving your team--no matter what happens. There are many fans all over the NFL (with every NFL team) that are just like us--but they are few and even fewer like us--we are special.
I hope we meet every year for the AFC championship game at Mile High. Your team would become a legend making it to all those title games and watching us win all those Super Bowls.
Have fun--seeya that Monday.

Hmmm--wondering why I'm doing this--and still wondering
I guess we meet in a couple of weeks. I don't hate you like most Bronco fans--I guess I remember when you were defending the AFL when Green Bay and Dallas were fighting it out. That was many many years ago--so many years ago that the only way I can account it is many many (and then many) years ago.
I know that once you stopped being great that we began to slide in the same direction. Let's hope we rite ourselfs.
Good luck this season, except your first game and when we meet again.

Can fans make a difference--I don't know--but curious thought.
About five or so minutes ago I went to the Packer's SB site and made a comment. I was kind and simply asked them what their thoughts were on this upcoming game. I waited around for three/four minutes and got no response. Then I noticed something funny. Their most recent fan-post was four days ago. Take a look at our Fan-Posts.
I know I just did a post about how special this site is, but, for some reason, I want to do it again.
Last time I thanked the staff-- they do deserve to be thanked--but the real reason for the success of this site is me. You heard it right--it is me that made this site great. Of course I wasn't alone, in fact it wasn't me at all--except in la-la-land I can believe want i want....so there!
Its funny what happens when like-minded kind (yet with opinions), intellegent (yet humble), funny (yet serious) people love the same thing and get together.
When I started this post I was going to name every person I have read, commented to, and been commented from--but I just can't.
The bears, firsts, paps, teds, silvers,b..sds,guns,mans, and the so many that have made this site so fun--you are what have made this site so special.
I don't know if any of you have ever read Horvil Tiki but I would like to nominate him for 'Secretary-of-Communication' of la-la-land.

Who cares about ESPN !
Since joining SB Nation and MHR I have visited almost every SB team site concerning football. You all should do it (if you're from the south, Y'allshdoit.)
I really think that (even being a medium market) we have five times the participation of fans around the country than any of the other team's sites.
I went to the Texan's site after our first game and made a comment on a post by some kid called (I think) texasmaniac (Ithink) I was kind, gave my point of view, and this kid was very excited that someone had 'made a comment' on his post. Two days later I go back....only one other comment...and it was to me--not this kid that had made the post. This kid's post was a very fine break-down of what happened during the game.
How many at this site have made a post and not got a response?
Everyone at this site needs to give GURU a hand! He has put together a site that everyone feels comfortable and anyone can contribute--as long as you are kind.
I went to Steelers got no response. I went to Miami, 'the Phins' (I think) and got a good response. We are right next to the 50th of the old AFL (something I think we should start gathering ideas about) and I got good answers--but it was only from one person.
As I bounced from team to team the main thing I noticed is that most SB sites are dominated by just one--two--maybe--three writers....and not many more of people that just comment.
This site is something special, I don't have cable but still laugh at ESPN (hmmm espn that looks better).
My hat (which I don't wear) still goes of for the staff of this site.
Guru, HT, Styg, Zappa (the 13-3 prophet), and mdierk.
You have created a site that other teams don't have.
Thankyou!
Who needs espn?!

I don't want to leave La-la-land early! Show up To Play!
I know its pre-season--but this game is of up-most importance.
Last year we went into this game like it was a pre-school family get-together. I know that the short week and the heat of Texas had some part in it--but after this pre-season game (last year) we looked like a non-form group of pretend team--a bunch of guys just looking for a paycheck. We tried to pull it together but never did--we had some moments but just didn't.
Last year (after this game) we had players complaining that we "didn't expect them to play so hard after practicing together." We lost key players because so many players didn't show up to play. Lynch complained because they blitzed us so often they broke some sort of code............................SO!
This year we have many young players, I feel a better team, with much more character. This team of character, which fills me with all kinds of 'la-la-land-of pre-season-feel-good-hopes' must step up. We don't have to win this game, but we must show up to play.
We will have obvious starters still not starting but this doesn't matter. I really think Shanny has brought in a special group. Maybe not the strongest, maybe not the fastest--just a bunch of guys that like to play football.
Are You Ready For Some Football? I am !!!!!!!!! So must this group of young players.
This game is very important maybe even very very important.

I'm a hard-core Bronco Fan but remember when...
The AFL was trying to get the world to believe.
You know, its been almost fifty years since the beginning. I don't even know if Miami was an original team--I know the Broncos were--I just know you guys did something special.
Broadway Joe and the Jets did something special, its the only reason Joe is in the Hall, he did nothing after that. After that Hank and KC did the old NFL in--They had to accept us as something special. Fifty years, can you believe it! Miami has been such a special part of this NFL/AFL story.
Is his name Czonka or Csonka, I can't really remember--I'm a Bronco fan--I don't need to remember these things...and have tried to forget those years. Denver was there but not yet part of what was happening. Only you went undefeated. Was Czonka's or Csonka's side-kick Kick or Morris or both.
You guys in Miami need to start the drafts for the stories you remember. We are coming up on fifty years and you guys were a major player. Maybe not for causing the merger but for proving the old AFL may have been better than the NFL.
Good luck rebuilding and becoming a power again.

Montana Elway and Sammy (in la-la-land)
Sammy Winder
As I reminiscent the days of Elway and Montana, suddenly I have this, ’ come from somewhere', memory of a half-back named Sammy Winder. For some reason I love Sammy and hate the stories about Montana vs Elway. Those of us that saw Elway carry, team after team, of average tallent, know that no other QB could have done this. Elway is the best ever, and I thank him for staying in Denver his entire NFL life.
But what about Sammy! He started, “The Drive,” he helped the Elway legend.
Some have told me not to---but I just can’t help it.
I’m going back into the la-la-land-of-pre-season-feel-goods.
Ahhh! It is so nice to be back in la-la-land. In this land Cutler is only ‘just-as-good’ as Elway and its only his third year..
Selvin is faster and stronger than the Sammy of old, and as good as Davis at running away.
Sammy Winder is remembered by Bronco Fans because of his style and ‘The Drive’. There is a love of him because there is no illusion. “Get Ball Run Forward” From the Two he took the ball, ran forward, and started the drive.
Sammy and Selvin are, and were, in the same spot. Montana and Elway….there is no contest. Montana played with a team. Elway carried a team, a franchise, an entire city, and many of us fans on his shoulders. This is la-la land and comes at you like a dream.
In this dream Selvin doesn’t see Davis holding up a trophy. He sees Sammy, putting his head down, plowing forward, getting a first down. The drive begins!
Thankyou Mr. Winder
Us somewhat funny Bronco fans are funny….don’t you think?

Lost something
Somehow you've lost something. Somehow you've lost something that people love to hate. Somehow I have lost that feeling of, 'hate you,' and have this feeling of pity, "Who you?"
Who are you Raiders, where are you at! Who are you Raiders that we call Faiders. What has happened to you! You need to pick yourself up off the matt. You need to look at us Broncos and hate us! The AFL West has become the joke of the NFL. Wake-up! You black and silver-face-scary-things.
You better be ready for us because we are becoming a great team. You better be ready for San Diego....we will.
Forget our recent games that had no meaning.
Be the Raiders. Be the team that we love to hate and beat!
Davis get a grip

Inside Shanahan's Brain
I am really shooting from the hip with this post. I'll have little proof, little evidence, and most of you may think me crazy if you take time to read. I think Shanny is trying skip, or jump around, one single year.
In 1993 the arguments between Reeves and Elway came to an end...Wade Phillips replaced Reeves. Reeves discipline and hyper-conservative play did us well, he and Elway made us a power. Reeves only problem, he refused to abuse the tallents of the greatest QB of all time. I like Reeves and think he should be in the ring, but imagine 15 years of Elway under Shanny. The stats would be scary and maybe never broken. Anyway,1993, Wade is the new, 'easy going' coach. We start out 3-1, think things are great, but end in mediocrity.
1993 we start out great--are 7-4 at the eleventh game--and end up 9-7.
Hmmm. Recent 9-7's. Just a thought.
2006 we start out great--are 7-4 at the eleventh game--and end up 9-7.
Hmmm.
1994 we start out terrible, 0-4 start, struggle all season, and end with a 7-9 record.
Hmmm. Recent 7-9's. Just a thought.
2007 we start out great...but it is an illusion. We struggle all season and end with a 7-9 record.
Hmmm.
1995, enter Mike Shanahan. He has this funny thought. If defenses can cover in a zone why can't an offensive line zone-block? Funny thought, no particular hole, just block in that direction. I bet in Mike's brain he was thinking, "If I could just find a decent, one-cut, downhill runner--this thought might work." Hmmm. Enter Terrell Davis. This is the year that Shanny is trying to skip. This is the year he tinkered with ideas, saw that they worked, and moved to fill the pieces.
1995, under this new funny system, we end up 8-8. This is the year I hope we avoid. This 'what' is behind Shanahan's brain. This 'what' is what he is trying to do. Skip 1995. Jump to 1996 but don't get surprised in the playoffs. This thought is in Shanny's brain. I know it is! Well, I say I know it is...remember...this is just speculation. But I know I'm right.
1996 we should have gone to the Superbowl. 1997 we have the ultimate revenge tour and, "This one's for John!" 1998 we should have gone undefeated. John is MVP. We defeat Dan. Just reward!
Hmmm, Whats'up!
2008! What is in Shanahan's brain. Is the purge of staff because he wants none to question his thoughts? Probably. Did he fill the staff's holes with people in house because he knew they would listen to him? Probably. Has he looked at the Superbowl years and seen what was then? Probably. Has he looked at that '97-'98 teams character? Yes, back then we had one ethic problem (Roman) and one mouth question (Sharpe). Roman I'm glad is gone but I miss Sharpe's mouth. I love Shannon. 1995 and '96 we had mostly uknowns...we have this now in 2008. The difference is this is not a new system...and Shanny has seemed to have kept coaches that understand it.
What's in Shanahan's Brain? "Skip 1995, move to 1996, don't get surprised in the playoffs.
