Travis Henry Arrested
Considering the history of Travis Henry, this piece of news today shouldn't shock anyone. I was glad at the time they released him, and even more so now.
The case has its roots in Montana, where a trooper and DEA agent stopped a car that was carrying six pounds of marijuana and about three kilograms of cocaine on Sept. 16, the affidavit said.
A passenger in the car, whose name was not disclosed in the affidavit, told authorities Mack and Henry had supplied him with the drugs, which he was supposed to deliver to customers in Billings. The man said he was supposed to be paid $5,000 for delivering the drugs and transporting about $63,600 in sales proceeds to Henry, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit indicated that separately, the passenger and another customer in Billings already owed Henry about $40,000 in drug proceeds. The passenger told authorities Henry had threatened him and his family over the debt.
The passenger agreed to cooperate with authorities and set up a drug deal Tuesday with Henry that led to the arrests of Mack and Henry, the affidavit said.

Keep Matt Bryant of the Bucs in your Prayers
In sad news, it looks like the Bucs Kicker Matt Bryant and his family will need our prayers. I didn't see it here yet, but may have missed it. However, I thought it was worth a post. Please stop by bucem and give them our condolences and our support.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Matthew Tryson Bryant, the 3-month-old son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant, died Wednesday.
"We had a terrible tragedy this morning," coach Jon Gruden said after practice. "We lost a key member of our family. Matt Bryant and Melissa lost their youngest son. I don't have a lot of details but ... it's hard. Our prayers go out to the Bryants."
"Obviously the details will come later but it's just a horrible tragedy and I can't explain it. Again, I just ask the fans and the people that know Matt to keep him in their prayers. It will be hard for him to overcome this but we've got to do the best we can right now."
Bryant is in his seventh season in the NFL, his fourth season with Tampa Bay.
"The entire Buccaneer family is deeply saddened by this tragedy," general manager Bruce Allen said in a team statement.
"The Bryants have been an inspiration to our entire community through their commitment to their family and their exhaustive efforts working with children and those in need in the Bay area. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and Melissa during this difficult time."
Matthew was the youngest of the Bryant family's two sons.
Bryant, 33, kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime against Chicago last Sunday.

Giving up leads in 2005
It is early in the season, but there has already been a lot of talk about our Broncos giving up two very large leads at home. These are leads that we should have not given up, and should have instead been easier than they were. While thinking about this, I reminded myself of 2005. Yes we were 13-3, and one very bad game by Plummer away from reaching a Super Bowl that most of us think we could have won. However, let's examine a particular month of that season. The month is October, and while we did go 4-1 that month, I see do see some parallels between that particular month and the early going of this season.
Oct 2 Broncos @ Jags
Nothing much to note here except that we did beat a good Jags team, 20-7
Oct 9 Redskins @ Broncos
Up 21-10 in the fourth quarter, we let the Redskins come back with a FG, and then a Touchdown with 1:09 left in the game. The Redskins miss on a two point conversion to tie the game. Final 21-19 Broncos
Oct 16 Patriots @ Broncos
We go up 28-3 with over 10 minutes to go in the third quarter. That's it, game is over. However, the Pats score 17 unanswered points, and get the ball back with 5 minutes to go in the game, at their own 8. They had moved the ball well in the second half, scored on 3 of their first 4 drives that half. However, the Broncos are able to force the Pats to punt, and the Denver O gets two first downs and run out the clock. Final 28-20 Broncos
Oct 23 Broncos @ Giants
This is Eli's first flash of brilliance, in my opinion. The Broncos get a 23-10 lead with over 13 minutes to go in the game. What happens next is Eli and the Giants offense comes alive and scores two TD's, the game winner with 5 seconds to go in the game. Final 24-23 Giants
Oct 30 Eagles @ Broncos
The final of this game may have looked pretty, but this game got really scary for a period of time. The Broncos build up a 28-0 lead with 7:30 to go in the second quarter. The Eagles then come roaring back, and get within a touchdown to start the fourth quarter. The Broncos are able to regroup and score 21 points of their own in the fourth quarter to win. Final 49-21 Broncos
In two of those games we had a two possesion lead and either held on for a win (Redskins), or lost in the final seconds (Giants). In two others we had what looked like enourmous leads, only to have them almost evaporate, with both of those being at home. In those games our defense had lapses and we were able to recover. The Broncos did get picked on a bit durring the month of October, with the MSM saying we were playing on the edge, and lucky to be 7-1. Jake was being efficient and taking care of the ball. The defense was giving up leads, but holding when they needed to.
Instead of rambling on, I will simply say... discuss

ESPN's All-Time Franchise rankings
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=nflrankings/1-10/080917
Interesting read here, that I'm not sure I saw elsewhere here. I'm surprised that the MSM (if you can call ESPN that anymore), had us ranked where we were. What is really ironic is who is directly behind us. With the way things are going right now, if ESPN did this same rankings in the next 5-10 seasons, we could potentially be higher.

Playing for Pizza
I recently finished a book my brother had bought me for Christmas. This is a short novel by John Grisham, that deviates from his normal style of novel.
The story revolves around a fictional third string quarterback, who plays for the Cleveland Browns, and is forced into action in a fictional AFC title game against the Denver Broncos. The story starts out with him in the hospital after the game, and his agent trying to get him a new job somewhere. Unfortunately, after a disaster in that AFC title game, no team is willing to touch him. Eventually, his agent gets him a job in an Italian football league, playing for the Parma Panthers.
The story is about his season in Italy, adjusting to the move, and trying to get his team adjusted to him. It's a great novel, that was fun to read. While the Broncos are only in the novel for background, I'd still recommend it.

I'm not ready to give up yet
Now at 5-6 Denver is definitely behind the 8-Ball. However, not all is bleak.
We are still only one game back in the Division, alone due to the Chiefs losing to Oakland. What is more surpising is as of right now, we still control our own destiny. We don't need any help right now to get into winning our division.
IF (and that is a HUGE IF) we run the table, we win the division. That includes a game at San Diego which for all purposes may be for the division crown. Let's say San Diego also runs the table, but lose to us, and end up tied. With the season series tied at 1, we would then own the Division record, which is the second tie breaker after head to head.
Also, while it's not likely, KC still has an outside chance at winning the division, but need a bit of help.
Denver really should have won this game, much like the Green Bay game. I know people are ready to throw in the towel after a heart breaking loss, and most of that is emotion. I feel that same pain right now, but I still see a light.
I have lived threw worse situations for the Broncos in the past, and it happens from time to time. I will grant most of those were with Elway, and in single game situations. We've seen odder things happen in the NFL (Look at the Giants last year).
The offense is clicking overall. We had a hard time on third downs, and that hurt. The Defense didn't even look that bad until the final two drives. The special teams have looked absolutely horrid at times, and great at others.
Our remaining schedule, even on the road is not the hardest. The only game that scares me is the SD game. KC is getting better, and will be playing for their playoff lives, Oak will be playing for Pride. Houston and Minn may also be playing for the playoffs as well. Even with all that, we still control our destiny.
Will we go far in the playoffs? You never know, and I wouldn't bet on it.
There is a light, and it is dim, but it still there.

Larry Johnson "Highly Unlikely" for this weeks game
It's only Tuesday, and much can change between now and game day, but it appears Larry Johnson may not play this week against Denver.
This could be a big break for us, even if that means a ghost from the Chiefs past plays (Holmes). Then again, Johnson could very easily walk out onto the field Sunday, ready to play.

Grady Jackson no longer on the market
I know there was some debate back and forth about the idea of pickin gup Grady Jackson after the Falcons released him. It now seems as if this is no longer a concern.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d803c16db&template=without-video&confirm=true
Basicly:
"The Jacksonville Jaguars have agree to terms with free agent defensive tackle Grady Jackson, pending a team physical.
The deal is expected to become official on Wednesday, according to the Jaguars."
