This Has To Affect Our Offense...

Having the worst starting field position in the league has to have some affect on our offensive woes...

I mean, I don't want this to become a "If Jay were the QB, then we could start on our own goal-line", or, "Well, Elway started a drive from our own 1 1/2 yard line and scored", thread, just mentioning the fact.

Before yesterday's game the average starting position was our own 28 yard line, worst in the NFL...Sure we had a couple of opportunities yesterday and didn't make the most of them, but we also started a drive at our own two and were able to change field position, and both of our scoring drives in the first half were 85+ yards, and with the wind....

The Broncos had some success when going with the wind...

Add all that up with a miserable weather we have had to deal with on a semi-consistent basis(the dome game excluded), and I think we are starting to see some light, though maybe I am a helpless optimist.

There were a couple of horrible throws yesterday, and a pick allowed the Browns score an easy TD, but overall we played pretty well when not playing into a 35 MPH wind, and trust me, it sucked, I was there.... Here's a look at possessions this season that started inside our own 20 --

So far this season, we have started 19/68(28 %) drives inside the 20.
10 of those drives started inside our own 10.
7 of those inside our own 5.

The results of those drives are below...

5 Scoring drives(27%)
11 Punts(58%), to be expected, but only 4(21%) of those were 3 and outs.
1 Turnonver in the KC game, which led to a field goal(5%)
2 Drives ended at the end of the half or game(10%)

So even though we did have to punt over half the time, we actually scored more often than we went 3 and out, and only had 1 turnover...

This, as I said in the beginning has nothing to do with the Jake V. Jay debate...

I was stating a fact about our offense in general.
I will say the two drives we started in Browns territory are more troubling to me, and those opportunities need to be capitalized on...
