10/25 Chris Mortensen Chat Excerpts...

With all the hub-bub surrounding the comments made by Mort regarding the Jay V. Jake situation, I thought it would be a good idea to bring you the comments Mort made about the situation on his weekly  CHAT.

Neal Joliet, IL: Mortimer, doesn'tt he Cowboys decision to switch to Romo and the indecision heading into the following week sere as a cautionary tale for Broncos fans/staff who think Jay cutler should be starting soon?

Chris Mortensen: It would be a mistake to compare the two situations even if they appear similar. Two different coaches, different schemes, different quarterbacks. On that thinking, you could flip it around and see the positives with Phillip Rivers, or what happened with Ben Roethlisberger on a good team with a great defense. By the way, Romo also showed some promising things, too.
_____________

Mike (Orlando Florida): What happened with the Cutler report? Were you given bad information or what?

Chris Mortensen: The report is 100 percent accurate. Mike Shanahan never refuted the report.

Brad (NM): Should the Bills kicking themselves for not drafting Leinart? The Losman expirament seems to be failing miserably.

Chris Mortensen: Remember, it's a team game. Losman has the physical tools, he's tough, competitive and he's a worker. He has only had 15 NFL starts. Raider fans were laughing at Leinart on Sunday because he looked terrible. Why? He's young and the protection broke down. I think Leinart would struggle in Buffalo, especially in that climate. Now, Jay Cutler would thrive in Buffalo but Losman just has to learn how to take care of the ball in light of the fact that the O-line has its shaky moments. If Losman doesn't learn that, he won't be the quarterback.

Brad (Toedo): How does losing Matt Lepsis affect Jay Cutlers chances of takign over this year? Its going to happen soon or later but it sooner this year?

Chris Mortensen: I guess that's a good question. Losing Lepsis, their left tackle, is a big blow. Cutler is a superior pocket passer than Plummer but he also is a decent athlete.

_____________

Joe (NYC): Why would Jay Cutler thrive in Buffalo?

Chris Mortensen: First, he has the arm strength and revolutions on the ball to succeed in the climate Buffalo gets. The other is that at Vanderbilt, because he played in the SEC, he is conditioned to throwing in tigther spaces because of the protection issues. That's the short answer. It's not a knock on Leinart because I like him a lot; it's more of an endorsement of Cutler for that hypothetical.

______________

Joe (Baghdad, Iraq): How do you see the Colts-Broncos game playing out this weekend?

Chris Mortensen: I lied. I saw this Baghdad post so I want to answer it: I think the Broncos have a good chance of winning. In fact, I will pick the Broncos....take care over there.
