As we wake up this morning the Broncos Roster sits at 75 players. By Noon, EST, 22 of those will be gone, looking for new work. Rumors are already swirling about who has made the cut, and who will be cut.
Thanks to Russ(Rox Fan in NY) for the link to the Denver Post Story detailing some of those not expected to make it.
As expected here at the MHR, the Broncos are going to carry two QB's for the 2nd straight season by releasing Bradlee Van Pelt.
Dwayne "House" Carswell will also be released, ending his comeback bid from a terrible car accident last season.
Here is the Official List of roster moves today:
QB Bradlee Ven Pelt
DT Antwon Burton
DT Amon Gordon
WR Brian Clark
WR David Terrell
P/K Micah Knorr
S Tyler Everett
DE Corey Jackson
CB Roc Alexander
DB Jeff Shoate
FB Brandon Miree
RB Damien Nash
DE Khaleed Vaughn
LB Ray Wells
G Taylor Whitley
WR Darius Watts (SURPRISE!!)
RB Ron Dayne
QB Preston Parsons, though he is expected to re-sign to the practice squad
The Broncos also made another move, placing C Greg Eslinger on IR, ending his season. I think Eslinger has a bright future with the Broncos, and could be the heir-apparent to Tom Nalen at center. I year to learn won't be a bad thing for Paul.
As for P Todd Sauerbrun, he will not count against the 53 Man Roster for the first 4 games of the season due to his suspension.
Ironically, five of the players cut came out of the 2004 draft class(Watts, 2nd RND, Shoate, 4th RND, Miree, 5th RND, Van Pelt, 7th RND and Alexander, 1 UFA). We may have to look at some of the worst draft classes in the Shanny era, cuz that one has to rank right up there.
With today's moves, all of the Broncos 2006 draft picks are still with the team, along with undrafted Free Agent Mike Bell. The Broncos can name their 8 Practice Squad players beginning tomorrow, so expect some of these names to return.
