Scheffler Could Miss 2 Months
The Broncos suffered their first piece of bad news of 2007, though the outlook seems to look promising. Tony Scheffler, the 2nd year TE who figures to be a favorite target of QB Jay Cutler, suffered a broken foot after running a route in 7-on-7 drills near the end of today's practice session.
Much was made during the off-season of the 20 pounds Scheffler had added to his frame. I wasn't crazy about it to begin with, and it seems the Broncos weren't either, with reports that Scheffler had lost 10-12 of those pounds already, and was planning on losing 5 more during the upcoming practice periods.
While the thought is that Scheffler should be ready just in time for Training Camp in July, one never can tell, and we should know alot more after Scheff undergoes corrective surgery on Monday.
The injury to Scheffler makes the free agent signing of Daniel Graham all that more important and proves to critics like me why keeping 5 tight ends is actually a good idea. It should give Cutler plenty of time to find a comfort level with Graham and might allow an afterthought like Nate Jackson the opportunity to get his name back on the depth chart.
Here's hoping this injury isn't a sign of things to come, and more importantly here's hoping for a speedy recovery for Scheffler.
