How One Broncos Beat Writer Spends His Nights

By day, Bill Williamson is a Broncos beat writer for the Denver Post.  We have never been a huge fan here at the MHR, but hey, to each his/her own, right?

Anyway, Williamson covers the NFL, and specifically the Broncos for the Post by day, which must leave alot of time at night for him to make Super Bowl predictions for MSNBC.com.  Much to my surprise when I say his prognosticating on a national website.  I was shocked further by his pick to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XLII -- the San Francisco 49'ers!

In fact, Williamson breaks it all down for us, including the AFC West --

AFC West
  1. San Diego
  2. Denver
  3. Kansas City
  4. Oakland
In spite of new coach Norv Turner, the Chargers are one of the AFC's best teams and the class of a once strong division. The new-look Broncos have all kinds of skills on offense and are well coached. If the defense can come along, Denver could push the Chargers. The Chiefs and Raiders will be lucky if they combine for double digit victories.

AFC Playoffs

Seeds

  1. New England
  2. San Diego
  3. Indianapolis
  4. Cincinnati
  5. Denver (wild card)
  6. Jacksonville (wild card)
Wild-card round: Indianapolis over Jacksonville; Denver over Cincinnati.

Divisional round: New England over Denver; San Diego over Indianapolis.

AFC championship game: New England over San Diego.

Williamson has the Chargers winning the West, while the Broncos do get in as a Wild Card.  After an upset of the Bengals, in Cincinnati, Williamson has the Broncs travelling to Foxboro to face the Patriots, a game Williamson says the Broncos will lose despite the run of success Denver has had over the Patriots under Bill Belichick.

To be fair, Williamson does have the Pats going all the way and beating the 49'ers in the Super Bowl, but one has to winder if Williamson will make the same prediction when picking for his "day job".
