Horse Tracks 9/14/09 - Broncos win on last-second tip, no new injuries reported

Horse_tracks_new_logo_medium

WOW! Good MORNING, MHR Friends! Obviously, there was quite a bit of luck involved in yesterday's win. But there are many positives; the defense and special teams were both excellent (the latter important with Josh Cribbs looming), while the offense didn't turn the ball over. Not many big plays on offense, with lots of dropped passes and one HUGE sack taken by Orton, but all is forgiven with a win. Folks, the Broncos' defense allowed Carson Palmer and Co. only seven points and 307 yards of offense. That is impressive, and something to be very excited about. Yes, the Bangles/Bungles dropped several passes too, but still an excellent performance by the D.

NFL - Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals - Box Score
Here's what jumps out at me - despite getting dominated in time of possession, the Broncos only allowed 307 yards of offense to the Bangles/Bungles. Plus, when's the last time the Broncos have been plus-2 in turnover margin at any point of any season? 2005?

NFL Results

NFL - Kansas City Chiefs 24 at Baltimore Ravens 38
Big days from Joe Flacco and Ray Rice, as the Ravens held the ball for a ridiculous 39:49.

NFL - Chicago Bears 15 at Green Bay Packers 21
So, Jay Cutler threw all those picks last year because he faced so much pressure from having a shoddy defense? What was his excuse last night? Because the Bears D did quite a number on Aaron Rodgers & Co. Oh, it was his receivers' fault? I thought Jay made the Broncos' receivers who they are. For those who didn't watch, Jay threw FOUR picks.

NFL - Miami Dolphins 7 at Atlanta Falcons 19
The Falcons D forced 4 sacks and 4 turnovers.

NFL - Philadelphia Eagles 38 at Carolina Panthers 10
Big win for the Iggles, but it came with a heavy price, as Donovan McNabb broke a rib.

NFL - Minnesota Vikings 34 at Cleveland Browns 20
Monster game from All Day AP. Josh Cribbs returned a punt for a TD.

NFL - New York Jets 24 at Houston Texans 7
Mark Sanchez had a fine debut, while Thomas Jones had a big game for the Jets, who dominated the clock.

NFL - San Francisco 49ers 20 at Arizona Cardinals 16
Tim Hightower did a reprise of Larry Centers' role, but the Cards couldn't overcome 3 sack and 2 interceptions by the Niners D.

NFL - Washington Redskins 17 at New York Giants 23
The G-Men used 3 sacks and a couple of takeaways to stifle the Skins, who had to resort to a fake FG to put up points.
