Denver Broncos 27 - Cleveland Browns 6 Game Notes

BRONCOS CONTINUE SUCCESS AGAINST BROWNS/IN HOME OPENERS

With the win, the Denver Broncos are now 18‐5 (.783) all‐time in regular‐season meetings against the Cleveland Browns.

Including postseason play, Denver is 21‐5 (.808) against Cleveland for its best winning percentage versus any opponent.

The Broncos improved to 23‐3 (.885) in home openers since 1984, and have now won 10 straight such contests. The streak, which is the longest current streak in the league, ties for the third longest all‐time.

 

DUMERVIL TIES FRANCHISE RECORD WITH CAREER‐HIGH FOUR SACKS


OLB/DE Elvis Dumervil registered a career‐best four sacks (15 yds.) while contributing seven solo tackles in the game. His four sacks ties a Broncos single‐game record that was last achieved by LB/DE Simon Fletcher (1985‐95) at San Diego (11/11/90) and marks the 19th time an NFL player has amassed four sacks since 2000. The performance represents Dumervil's eighth multi‐sack game since entering the league in 2006.

DENVER DEFENSE COMES UP BIG AGAIN

 

Denver's defense yielded just 42 yards in 22 plays inside its own territory while holding the Browns to four yards or less on 38‐of‐56 offensive plays (67.8 %).

The Broncos have now allowed just 13 points through their first two games, tying for the second lowest total in franchise history to start a season.

ROYAL TOPS 1,000 CAREER RECEIVING YARDS

 


WR Eddie Royal (3 rec., 20 yds.) surpassed 1,000 career receiving yards today against Cleveland. The second‐year player, who recorded 91 catches in 2008 (second most by a rookie all‐time) for 980 yards, is the sixth player in franchise history to reach the 1,000‐yard receiving mark (1,018 yards) during his first two pro seasons.

 

BRONCOS IMPRESSIVE IN RUN DEFENSE

 



The Broncos, who held Cincinnati to 3.2 yards per rush (27‐86) in Week 1, held the Browns to 2.6 yards per carry (21‐54) today. RB Jamal Lewis was the Browns' leading rusher with 14 carries for 38 yards (2.7 avg.). Cleveland has never had a 100‐yard individual rusher against the Broncos in 26 games played against Denver (23 reg. season, 3 playoff).

FORMER BROWN DAVIS LEADS CLUB IN TACKLES

 


ILB Andra Davis led all players with 10 tackles (8 solo) and finished second on the club with two tackles for a loss. Davis, who entered the game third on the club with nine tackles, equaled his Week 1 output and led all players with nine tackles in the first half (7 solo). Davis played his first eight professional seasons with the Browns and totaled at least 100 tackles in five of those years.

His nine tackles in the first half tied for his third‐highest half total in his NFL career.

 

STOKLEY RACKS UP THE RECEIVING YARDS

 


WR Brandon Stokley (5 rec., 70 yds.) has recorded the fifth‐most receiving yards in consecutive games in his career. The 11th‐year player had an 87‐yard touchdown reception with 11 seconds remaining in Week 1 (at Cin., 9/13) to propel Denver to a 12‐7 victory over the Bengals.
