According to tweets sent by Josina Anderson of Fox31 in Denver, the Broncos have walked away from any talk of extending Champ Bailey's contract until after the season. This according to Bailey's agent Jack Reale:
Breaking Alert: Champ Bailey's agent, Jack Reale, says t/ #Broncos informed him contract talks "are off the table" until t/ end of t/ season
Champ Bailey's agent: "Apparently there won't be any further discussions about Champ's contract until at least after the season. This is not
(cont.) our choice. This is a choice by the #Broncos. We'll respect that and move on if we have to." --Jack Reale, Champ Bailey's agent
Contract talks between the Broncos and Bailey have been going on most of the summer and season, but the two sides have not been able to come to terms with what was rumored to be a 4-year deal.
For his part, Champ Bailey says he'll play out his contract if that's what needs to happen:
I’m not worried about that. I don’t need them to kiss my (edit). I don’t need them to do me any favors. I'm under contract right now, I plan on playing it out. If another offer comes my way that seems like a good fit, or that might be worth signing, that’s what I’ll do. But I mean I’m not going to beg somebody to come to me to keep me on the team. It’s not going to happen. I’ve never been that way, and I never will be. We all know what’s at stake. They’re taking a risk, and I’m taking a risk.
Who is to say at the end of this season something gets worked out with this team or somewhere else, but they know that.
This is all part of the negotiation process, Broncos fans, so I would worry too much about it.
