The Denver Post is reporting that the Broncos have released linebacker Darrell Reid, who is recovering from offseason surgery. Reid had four sacks for the Broncos last year, and was also a special teams player.
He is famous in the NFL for his huge hit on former Titans running back Chris Henry when he played for the Colts.
Reid was expected to begin the season on the PUP list while he recovered from his surgery, but the Broncos owed him nearly $2 million and it's possible they cut ties in order to save that guaranteed money, per the Post.
Reid's cut comes as somewhat of a surprise with Elvis Dumervil missing the entire season, and some thought the Broncos would keep him on the PUP until he was ready to go and then add him to the active roster.
This move puts the Broncos officially at 63 players on the roster, though Marquez Branson is expected to head to the injured reserve at some point today as well.
