From the General Manager Troy Hufford: The Giants are very excited that Anthony has fallen to us at the 19th pick. The Giants desperately needed to fill a hole along our injury plagued offensive line and, lucky for us, we pretty much had our pick of the litter since only one offensive lineman has been taken so far (Mike Pouncey). The three guys we were looking at were Anthony Costanzo, Nate Solder and Tyrone Smith.
Of the three, we decided that Anthony Costanzo was the better option. He was a Rhode’s Scholar nominee and boasts a 3.5 GPA in Biochemistry, which is no cake walk. Now that his profession is football and he can spend more than 20 hours a week on the game, we expect him to improve on his already impressive football skills. Costanzo is a hard nosed lineman with surprisingly quick feet and good technique that should provide us an instant production and depth in both run blocking and pass blocking situations. We think that Anthony can be an excellent contributor to the Giants offense for years to come and we’re excited to start working on a contract with him and his agent as soon as the NFL and NFLPA can agree upon a deal.
From the Commish
Sayre: The Giants need to upgrade their offensive line, and getting Castonzo is a good way to start. He is a massive offensive tackle prospect who has great instincts and is very intelligent. I like that fit for the Giants.
