From General Manager CorjackOrange: After multiple scenarios of trading up and down, and deliberating on our slight team needs, we as an organization have decided to stay put. We are very excited to bring Mr. Taylor into the fold. With how hard it is to get a quality nose tackle in the 3/4 we have no qualms about this move, and are not concerned about Phil keeping his weight at least down to at least the 334 pound level he showed at the combine, and maintained at his pro day. He shows great potential at such a vital position, and seems to have turned his life around.
Firstly, he dominated supposed elite offensive lineman during Senior Bowl week, causing much havoc on the quarterback, and also dominated during one on one drills. Next, he had a great combine workout, running a 5.18 time in the 40. And lastly, he continued this momentum into his pro day work outs. We are intrigued by the many possibilities for Taylor in both the 3 man front and 4 man fronts. Though not a primary pass rusher, he can push the pocket with his strength and flashes quickness off the snap and a decent swim move to get by weaker centers and strong hands to work on the left tackle. He has great strength and mobility as a run defender, playing with great leverage against double teams and keeps his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage. He has nice tackling technique and hustles to the ball carrier from behind.
In conclusion, the Kansas City Chiefs are very happy with this selection, and will work diligently to cover the rest of our needs during the rest of the draft.
