NFL Draft 2011: Denver Broncos Select TE Virgil Green

With the first pick in the 7th round, the Denver Broncos have doubled dipped at tight end selecting Virgil Green from Nevada.

Green was considered by many to be the best athlete at this year's combine. Measuring in at 6'3'', 249 lbs, his 42.5 inch vertical jump was tops among all players, and second all time for tight ends. Green was an explosive play maker for Colin Kaepernick, averaging almost 15 yards per catch. He still needs refinement in his route running and blocking skills, but his size and athleticism will make him an immediate contributor on special teams.

Tight end was a position that was largely ignored during the McDaniels era. The Broncos now have two developmental tight ends to improve the offense. Another tight end might seem like a luxury pick, but in selecting Green in the seventh round, the Broncos are getting a play maker at a tremendous value.

Elway tweeted the following after the selection:

"Virgil Green had an extremely productive career at Nevada. Great measurables. He'll also be a solid special tms player for us"
