The new braintrust out in Denver continues to promote a spirited competition for the Broncos’ starting QB job in 2011 between the incumbent Orton and former first-rounders Tim Tebow(notes) and Brady Quinn(notes). But recent fan polls showed that more than 80 percent of the Broncos’ fan base preferred Tebow, Denver’s top pick last year, to Orton.

N.F.L. Draft: Virgil Green, Top-Ranked Tight End -
The safest tight end in this draft is Notre Dame’s Kyle Rudolph. So if you’re looking for surer things, he has the combination of blocking skills, receiving and toughness after the catch that should earn him a starting opportunity within the first 12-18 months of his N.F.L. career.

NFL Lockout: 'Time Running Short' To Save First Preseason Game -
The Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams will kick off the season on Aug. 7 with the Hall of Fame game, which is traditionally the first preseason game of the season. Of course, we're hoping that's when they kick off the season. The NFL lockout is still in effect which would block any preseason games from being played. The two sides are reportedly making progress but there has to be a date that officially kills the Hall of Fame game. July 22? Aug. 1? Aug. 5? We're not sure what it is but it's sometime between now and the start of the game on Aug. 7.
