Press Conference - New Deal Between NFL Owners and Players

New, comments

It is finished. We have football once again. As is common with most breaking news stories, there was a press conference. DeMaurice Smith and Roger Goodell both gave statements regarding their satisfaction with the new deal. But if you ask me, I think these statements stem more from a sense of relief than from actual satisfaction.

Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, gave a joint news conference with DeMaurice Smith, NFLPA, near the NFLPA headquarters in Washington.

"It's been a long time coming. Football is back and that's great news for everybody."

-Roger Goodell

"I know it has been a very long process since the day we stood here that night in March, but our guys stood together when nobody thought we would. And football is back because of it."

-Demaurice Smith

You can say that again. So much was made of the NFL Owners attempting to wait out the players, attempting to let their alliance to each other crumble. They thought that the players would turn on each other, creating division and leverage for the owners. Well, that never happened. The players stood tough, like DeMaurice Smith mentioned, and the owners were not able to take a foothold in this negotiation.

Both men seemed relieved that this deal was done. This has been a long process and it's exciting to finally have a conclusion.

Enjoy the 10 years of football, MHR, and pray that the CBA negotiations aren't nearly as tiresome next time around.
