Sometimes the best way to gain ground on a division rival is to weaken them while making yourself stronger at the same time. That means, when the opportunity arises, signing away their free agents.
I was asked the other day if I thought Darren Sproles would be an option for the Broncos. Personally I have always been a fan of Sproles, especially as a return man. We've seen him kill the Broncos over and over again, and with the Broncos having a need in the return game and in the backfield I thought Sproles was an attractive target.
The Broncos don't agree.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, there are three teams in the running for Sproles and the Broncos are not one of them:
New Orleans, Philadelphia and, yes, Chargers in running for Sproles. I'm told that's the final 3. Decision soon.
A bit disappointing, I guess, but a player like Sproles is a luxury the Broncos simply can't afford right now, on or off the field.
