Today, John Fox announced that Kyle Orton would be the Broncos starting quarterback in Week One against the hated Raiders on Monday Night Football.

The announcement came as no surprise, Fox wants to win and win now.

But on the heels of this announcement comes news that the Broncos have put Tim Tebow up on the trading block and are currently listening to offers from teams according to another great Broncos' blog site, southstandsdenver.com. Another source, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, says, "They believe that while the Broncos are not openly trying to trade Tebow, they say that when teams have recently inquired about him, the Broncos haven't been saying he's off the trading block, either."

Update: Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that John Elway told him the Broncos will not trade Tebow and he is still in the team's plans.

Could it be true Broncos fans?

Could what some call the future of the franchise at the quarterback position truly be traded away after being with the Broncos for little over a year, playing in little more than three games?

Broncos Country has been divided for years now, dating back to the Plummer/Cutler debate--which includes Shanahan's firing, McDaniels' hiring, the Cutler trade and of course, the drafting of Tim Tebow--and the two current camps in Denver are Team Orton and Team Tim Terrific.

Team Orton believes what Fox affirmed he sees too, that Kyle Orton gives the Broncos the best chance to win right now.

Team Tebow ranges to believing that he will be the future of the franchise, to those that think he's God's gift to football.

Of course Orton gives the team the best chance to win, as a six year veteran coming off his best statistical season ever (3,653 yards, 20 TD, 9 INT), compared to a virtual rookie that started the last three games of his first season.

But the Broncos already showed they're not loyal to Orton when they tried to trade him earlier this season; Why would he want to be loyal to them and resign in the Mile High City in the offseason?

And even if he has another great season and wants to resign with the Broncos, is a mediocre quarterback the future of the franchise at the most important position on the field?

Yes, his numbers are good, but not great. He's a game manager, not a guy that can take over a game. Orton folds under pressure, fumbling away opportunities late in game when the Broncos need it the most.

Kyle Orton is a pedestrian QB, not what the Broncos need.

That's not saying that Tim Tebow is what the Broncos need necessarily, but the kid deserves a chance to show what he's got.

If everything goes right in Denver this season, what's the ceiling for this team? 9-7? 8-8?

This is the perfect situation to give a rookie the opportunity to prove whether or not he can play at the NFL level--to test and see how he handles pressure as a professional--with a new coach and low expectations of a team that will most likely miss the playoffs for the sixth straight season.

Alas, Team Orton and their guy gets the go while Team Tebow's man may not ever play another game in the Broncos' blue and orange.

Of course, if these rumors are true and as more details come out, we will all know more about the possibility of Tim Tebow being traded.

And, it honestly seems like a silly notion. Why trade away a guy before you know for sure if he can play in the NFL at a high level? Why trade away a guy who's jersey can't stay on the shelves, meaning Broncos colors are being displayed nationwide? Why trade away a player that brings national attention from ESPN and others?

It makes little sense, but stranger things have happened.
