Do the Broncos intensely dislike the Raiders?

October 10, 1999 -- in the first post-Elway season, HC Mike Shanahan and OC Gary Kubiak continued their dominance of the Oakland Raiders by securing the first win in what would be a season sweep of Shanahan’s hated rival. This victory increased Shanahan’s Broncos’ record versus the Raiders to 8-1.

The Broncos jumped out to a 13-0 lead at the half, on the strength of two Jason Elam field goals (48 and 47 yards) and Brian Griese to Rod Smith 3-yard touchdown pass. However, the Raiders battled back and had tied the score 13-13 in the fourth quarter. Jason Elam kicked the game winning field goal with 10:18 left in the game. Denver held on to win when their defense sacked Oakland QB Rich Gannon twice on the Raiders next possession, then -- after a Denver punt -- intercepted Gannon at the Denver 23-yard line to end Oakland’s come back bid.
