Willis McGahee Out Long Term With Fractured Leg, Torn MCL

In the Broncos victory over the Chagers, not all was good news.

In the second quarter of yesterdays game, Willis McGahee went down with a knee injury knocking him out of the game.

The Broncos leading rusher got an MRI done and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortenson, McGahee will miss an extended period of time - approximately 6-8 weeks. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports also says McGahee fractured his leg.

McGahee was on his way to another 1000+ yard season. To this point he had 731 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The loss of Willis McGahee is a huge loss for the Broncos. Despite his trouble holding onto the ball, he has been without a doubt the best running back on the Broncos.

The math is pretty easy for when McGahee may return. Either way, McGahee is likely to miss the rest of the regular season. Expect the Broncos to use the IR/Designated to Return label, allowing him to return for the playoffs.

The Broncos have not said who will be the new starter, but it may well be split carrying duty between Lance Ball and Ronnie Hillman. Former first round pick Knowshon Moreno could be given one last opportunity to make an impact. Denver also has Jeremiah Johnson on the practice squad.

John Fox said on Monday that McGahee will not require surgery and will not go on IR at this time.
