On This Day in Broncos History: November 27

A Huge Denver Comeback

Justin Edmonds

November 27, 1960 - Denver was hosting the Buffalo Bills. It was the second meeting of the two teams in that season -- the Broncos had won the first 27-21. This game was played in a snowstorm. The Bills jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first and led 17-7 at the half. Buffalo added two field goals, an offensive touchdown and a pick-6 to take a 38-7 lead in the third quarter. An 80-yard Frank Tripucka to Lionel Taylor pass cut the deficit to 38-14 at the end of three quarters of play.

The Broncos exploded in the fourth quarter. First, Tripucka and Taylor connected on a 24-yard touchdown pass. This was followed by a 35-yard Tripucka to Taylor scoring pass. A 1-yard run by Don Allen cut the Bills lead to three, 38-35. Gene Mingo kicked a field goal with 4 seconds left to tie the game at 38-38. As the AFL did not have an overtime rule, the score stood as a 38-38 tie.
