On This Day in Broncos History: November 8

Remember Bubby Brister?

Doug Pensinger

November 8, 1998 - The last time Denver played on November 8 was in 1998. The 8-0 Broncos hosted the 3-5 San Diego Chargers as part of a 13-game winning streak to open the 1998 season. Denver won 27-10.

What makes this game notable is that starting QB John Elway strained rib muscles while warming up prior to the game. Elway played only the first Broncos offensive series in the game before being replaced by backup Bubby Brister. Brister completed 20 of 33 passes for 229 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. He was also responsible for 2 of San Diego's points when he fumbled the ball out of Denver's end zone while being sacked with just under four minutes left in the game.
