With the second pick in the 2012 MHR Community mock draft, the Washington Redskins select:
Robert Griffin III, Quarterback, Baylor
Redskins rep: cjfarls
Pick explanation:
"The Washington Redskins are extremely excited to have RG3 as the new face of our franchise. Obviously we gave gave up a whole lot to get this guy, but prospects like him come around very rarely, and this was an opportunity we simply couldn't let go by. Robert is a young man of considerable poise, maturity, intelligence and charisma... and a truly gifted athlete on the field. He was the most dynamic playmaker in college football last year, and we think he's just scratching the surface of what he can become. He can make all the throws, and when things breakdown, can be truly special moving the ball with his feet. Coach Shanahan is excited about using his talents, and confident that RG3 will lead our team to great things in the future."
Commissioner's analysis: I think, like the Andrew Luck selection, this is pretty much a no-brainer selection. The Redskins needed a quarterback of the future, and they gave up a TON to get him. Griffin is an elite athlete who has every skill you would look for in a potential franchise quarterback coming out of college, and then some. To me, there's not much that separates he and Andrew Luck, and there are some who believe that Griffin III is actually better at this point. With Mike Shanahan, Griffin will pretty much be a perfect fit if you think about the scheme. Veteran quarterbacks Jake Plummer and Donovan McNabb don't have the greatest things to say about Shanny, but I think Jay Cutler--a younger QB--loved him. When Shanahan has his sights set on a player, he goes and gets him at any cost. Getting Griffin is a good move, in my opinion, regardless of the price it costs because at least you won't be left wondering, "What if?"
