2012 MHR Community Mock Draft: Buffalo Bills Select Michael Floyd, Wide Receiver, Notre Dame

With the 10th pick in the 2012 MHR Community Mock Draft, the Buffalo Bills select:

Michael Floyd, Wide receiver, Notre Dame

GM Explanation: If trades were allowed in this mock draft, I would definitely deeply look into trading back at this spot. The elite players are gone, and I think the next ten or so players have similar talent levels. The Bills have a few holes and could very much improve their position by picking up a couple later round selections. Regardless, I am very happy with the Michael Floyd selection. Both his 2010 and 2011 seasons were extremely productive, and he showed an ability to play consistently high level football for back to back seasons. He has 4.47 speed, can easily stretch the field, and is a great #2 option alongside Stevie Johnson for Ryan Fitzpatrick. This selection gives the Bills an extra play maker on the offensive side of the ball, and if CJ Spiller undergoes a breakout season, the Bills could end the 2012 season as one of the better offenses in the NFL.

With the huge signing of Mario Williams in the off-season and their newly minted wide receiver Michael Floyd, the Bills have the extra pieces to move forward and finally make a playoff run that their fan base has not seen for over a decade. Other players I looked at were Riley Reiff, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Ryan Tannehill. Ultimately, the future pairing of Stevie Johnson and Michael Floyd was too much to ignore.

Commissioner's analysis: This is a great pick for the Bills, if you ask me. I think their offense is already pretty explosive, but they lack "names" at the receiver position outside of Steve Johnson, who just got a big payday and who knows how he will perform now that his wallet is full. I think Floyd has as much upside as any receiver in this draft, and they have to start protecting their investment in Ryan Fitzpatrick. That leads me to believe this pick will be an offensive tackle, especially now that they've lost Demetress Bell, but wide receiver is another route they could head. Floyd is a big, physical, fast receiver who has a nose for the end zone. I think this is a good selection.
