Since Scotty has been busy in the Engineering department with his Training Camp previews, I thought I would lock phasers on the Practice Squad eligible Bronco players to assist anyone keeping track. This post should also help those of you who are experimenting with the Roster Depth Chart Gizmo that Topher posted.

I actually wrote about the Practice Squad a few years back and will be pulling the eligibility data from that post. There is more information there to glean if you aren’t familiar with the Practice Squad.

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement

ARTICLE 33 PRACTICE SQUADS

Section 4. Eligibility:
(a) The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than two previous seasons on a Practice Squad: (i)players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s). An otherwise eligible player may be a practice squad player for a third season only if the Club by which he is employed that season has at least 53 players on its Active/Inactive List during the entire period of his employment.
(b) A player shall be deemed to have served on a Practice Squad in a season if he has passed the club’s physical and been a member of the club’s Practice Squad for at least three regular season or postseason games during his first two Practice Squad seasons, and for at least one regular season or postseason game during his third Practice Squad season. (A bye week counts as a game provided that the player is not terminated until after the regular season or postseason weekend in question.)

The definition of an Accrued NFL Season is:
6 or more regular-season games in one season in which a player is on the 53-man protected roster, IR list or PUP list.

So from the get-go, we know that all seven 2012 Draft picks are eligible to be placed on the Practice Squad. This year, I don’t think any will be placed on the PS. Usually it falls to the later round draftees, but I expect DT Derek Wolfe, QB Brock Osweiler, RB Ronnie Hillman, CB Omar Bolden, C Philip Blake, DT Malik Jackson and OLB Danny Trevathan to all make the Roster. It’s not that I am optimistic, it’s because I have more confidence in our drafting department. Not only that, but Malik Jackson and Danny Travathan (the likeliest candidates out of the seven) play in a position in need of depth on this team.

Here is a list of the other players by position with Practice Squad eligibility that are currently on the Roster.

CB Coryell Judie
CB Joshua Moore
DE Jeremy Beal
DE Jamie Blatnick
DE Ben Garland
DT Sealver Siliga
FB Austin Sylvester
G Wayne Tribue
G Austin Wuebbels
LB Elliot Coffey
LB Jerry Franklin
LB Steven Johnson
LB Mike Mohamed
LS Aaron Brewer

RB Mario Fannin
RB Xavier Omon
S Duke Ihenacho
T Adam Grant
T Mike Remmers
WR Mark Dell
WR D'Andre Goodwin

That’s 26 players not including the seven draft picks. 53 players for the Roster and another 8 for the Practice Squad. Now that you have a source, you will be able to simulate the Roster Cuts.
