The inherent problem with week one of football is that reactions to anything may be too much. It is great to see players back on real football fields as they get back into playing shape. There is, however, a reason we play 4 preseason games and after watching performances all over the league it isn't hard to see why.

The Denver Broncos recently released their first depth chart with few surprises. John Fox made sure to point out the one big hidden asterisk that says "None of this is official". Well, at least most of it isn't. With camp well underway players are fighting hard for those precious 53 roster spots and the first cut will quickly be upon us. At this point everyone should grab that hidden Katy Perry calendar you keep under your desk calendar and circle a few important dates.

August 27th: Rosters must be reduced to 75.

August 31st: Rosters must be reduced to 53.

September 2nd: Eight man practice squads can be created (I am currently in the process of trying to understand all the rules around the practice squad but apparently it requires a working knowledge of linear algebra and the game of Cricket... I'll be getting back to you on all that business.)

So with first cuts just over two weeks away I've attempted to create a 53 man roster even McKayla Maroney could be impressed by.

I'll save you the counting because it's actually a 54 man roster. DJ Williams' suspension bought me an extra roster spot for six games. Not too many surprises here I imagine. When you get down to 53 you realize just how little room there is for an extra high risk high reward player. Players like Xavier Omon, who is making an absolutely solid case for making this roster needs to continue to perform at this level for the next couple of weeks to have a chance. If that happens things might get shaken up a bit.

For many current Broncos from now till August 31st will be the most important days of their lives. The time to impress is now. Here's my 53, but where do you think I went wrong?
