Game 2 is in the books and lets take a quick look at the position battles from last night:
Backup QB
Brock Osweiler - Osweiler did not have a great day. He was 2/5 but once had to start on his own 5. He was sacked once and did not deliver the ball as quick as he did last week. He held onto the ball long on a few plays but still has a long way to go. He did not secure the 2nd QB job that is for sure but he did not make any large mistakes for him to lose the job. It looks like this battle will be won in the 4th pre-season game when all 3 will get to play.
Adam Weber - Did Not play
Caleb Hanie - Did Not play
Running backs
Lance Ball - Ball had a game filled with positives and negatives. He only had 2 carries for 5 yards. He also had 4 receptions for 30 yards however on one of them he fumbled the ball. Very average performance. There is no where really for him to move up on the depth chart other than reps but I can't imagine his play today helped or hurt him. He also did a good job on pass protection.
Knowshon Moreno - Knowshon had a very quiet game. He only had 1 carry for -1 yards and Nothing came out of this and Knowshon needs a big game coming up if he wants to keep a roster spot.
Ronnie Hillman - Did not play tonight. He dressed but was ruled out. Hillman needs to have a good game coming up in the final 2 games to prove why the Broncos made a good decision. He has been explosive in practice but his lack of play may be what keeps Moreno or Ball on the team.
Cornerbacks
Tony Carter - Carter did not have a great game. He gave up some receptions and when he was put in to return a punt, he muffed it and lost several yards almost taking a safety.
Chris Harris - Harris had some great plays. He covered Terrell Owens several times and kept up with him well and almost had a couple picks. He is for sure going to be the #3 corner.
Drayton Florence - Florence gave up some catches but stood in well with his receivers. Cannot imagine he has any worries. He is the most aggressive corner the Broncos have so that to me locks up his spot.
Tight End
Dreesen showed nice hands and became a regular part of the passing attack in the first half. Between him and Tamme, I think they will set up a nice tandem. Not sure if there is an actual depth chart for these two. It will be a rotation. Virgil Green also blocked well and appears to be the best tight end for those situations.
Other players of note
David Bruton - David Bruton locked up a spot on the Broncos roster. He had one punt block and got a tip on another. Bruton has for years been the Broncos best special teams cover player and we have been waiting for him to block a punt. He will add safety depth but be a special teams stud too.
Nate Irving - Nate Irving had a great day as well. He was all over the field and generated pressure on the QB multiple times.
Malik Jackson - He was effectice, getting pressure on Russell WIlson including 2 hits on the QB. Malik also had a tackle for a loss.
Who did you guys see that was noticeably good or bad?
