September 26 -- This day is just one of the many days which saw WR Rod Smith contribute to the success of the Denver Broncos. On this day in 2005, Smith -- who was inducted into the Bronco’s Ring of Fame this last Sunday -- caught a 12-yard touchdown pass in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. In and of itself, that may not sound like a particularly significant thing. Yet, it gave Denver a 17-0 first quarter lead.
In that game, Smith caught seven passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. What that stat line does not tell you is that Smith was target only eight times. Four of his seven catches resulted in first downs for the Broncos. Three of the drives in which Smith earned a first down resulted in scores (two field goals and a touchdown). Thus we can see that our newest Ring of Fame member was instrumental in helping the Broncos to down the Chiefs 30-10 on September 26, 2005.
