Since the Broncos have a bye week coming up I thought I'd take a look and see what trends were taking place near the end of the regular season to see if we can comment on these changes and take a look at what effect they may have on the post-season.
As in past weeks this tidbits of statistics won't be indepth, rather they are just a cursory look at a few different metrics to see how they might explain a topic. Hope you enjoy.
Missed Tackles
So to look at this I wanted to break down who the surest tacklers on the Broncos were. To get this I organized the data into these rows:
- Position
- Name
- Snaps Played (Snaps)
- Total Tackles (Tks)
- Missed Tackles (Missed Tks)
This is a good start because we can see the totals overall, which is nice, but not perfect, and to improve on these numbers we turn them into rates. This means we take the number of missed tackles and divide it by another number. First we'll take missed tackles and divide it by the total snaps, by looking at this we can see how often when a player missed a tackle per snap. Now I excluded any players with fewer than 50 snaps since it would be far to erratic of a measurement without a decent number of snaps.
The second rate I wanted to look at is missed tackle per total tackle attempts. Now total tackle attempts is a combination of total tackles combined with missed tackles, This creates total tackle attempts.
- Missed Tackles per Snap (MT/Snap)
- Missed Tackles per Total Tackle Attempt (MT/TA)
Now to better compare the players I've also included the total numbers for each position so you can see how each player stands up to his unit average. These are percentages, so in the case of Robert Ayers, he has missed a tackle on 0.21% of his snaps on 5.88% of his tackle attempts.
Not much else to be said, so here you go, dive in.
