Broncos' Peyton Manning, Knowshon Moreno Nominated for Weekly NFL Awards

Another week, another award nomination for Peyton Manning. Today, Knowshon Moreno is also on the ballot!

USA TODAY Sports

This season, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has already been nominated for three FedEx Air Player of the Week awards—winning two of them—and running back Knowshon Moreno has been nominated for the Ground Player of the Week award, but is yet to take home the award.

Both players are in the running for the respective awards again this week after a 51-48 shootout victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5. Peyton and Moreno each received Game Balls from the MHR staff following their Sunday performances.

Manning went 33-of-42 for 414 yards and four scores in Week 5 and is up against Tony Romo (500 yards, five scores) and Drew Brees (288 yards, two touchdowns) in the voting.

Honestly though, we are wondering how Manning wasn't nominated for the Ground award after this play:

Perhaps it is because Manning was credited with four carries for negative-eight rushing yards on Sunday. When was the last time you remember seeing a Broncos player finish a game with negative rushing yards and a score?

Moreno, on the other hand, had a far better stat line, finishing the game with 19 carries for 93 yards (4.9 yards per carry) and a score while also adding 57 receiving yards. Moreno also earned some style points for performing another one of his signature hurdles.

Denver would probably be willing to sacrifice the style points, however, for the sake of avoiding injury. Moreno appeared to be a little gimpy after the play and may want to consider staying grounded in future games this season.

Moreno is up against Jamaal Charles (108 yards, one score) and Frank Gore (81 yards, one score) in the voting.

Voting is open on NFL.com through Friday. The winners will be announced on Saturday.
